Job description
The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), a semi-autonomous agency of the City and County of Honolulu, is responsible for the design and construction of Hawaii’s largest infrastructure project and the nation’s first fully-automated rail transit system. Considerable work is in progress to extend the system past the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and into downtown Honolulu, representing an 18.9-mile fixed-guideway rail system with 19 stations. It is an exciting time to be at HART, as the first segment of the rail system is open to the public.

These positions perform professional accounting functions as a primary work assignment. The authorized level of the position is an Accountant III. Applications are being accepted descending to the Accountant I in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Duties Summary:

These positions perform professional accounting work as a primary work assignment, along other related services, and work on various phases of a fiscal program, as required.

Grade-Level Standards and Distinguishing Characteristics:

Grade I: The Accountant I is the trainee level in the Accountant series, applying the basic principles and practices of professional accounting work. This is a temporary phase, in the employee’s progress, to a fully professional level of performance at a higher grade.

Grade II : This class is distinguished by its responsibility for performing accounting work on selected phases of a fiscal program, the accounting functions of which are of a simple to moderately complex nature, and are performed in accordance with standard accounting practices and general instructions.

Grade III: This class is distinguished by its responsibility for performing professional accounting work for a fiscal program, which accounting functions are of a complex nature, and which are performed in accordance with standard accounting practices and the policies and objectives of the accounting system.

Grade IV : This class is distinguished by its responsibility for performing the most difficult and complex accounting work for a fiscal program.

Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:

Grade I : A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting.

Grade II : A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and one year of professional work experience in accounting.

Grade III : A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in accounting and two years of professional work experience in accounting.

Grade IV : A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in accounting and three years of experience in professional accounting.

License Requirement : None.

Physical Requirement: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.

Schedule and Location: The work of this position is conducted in the HART offices in Honolulu, Hawaii (no telecommuting allowed) during typical 8-hour shifts. HART does not cover any relocations costs.

Grade II: $53,940 - $76,788/year

Grade III: $58,296 - $83,064/year

Grade IV: $63,096 - $89,820/year
