Duties and Responsibilities
This Accountant III position is within the Accounts Receivable section, in the Revenue Unit of the Bureau of Accounting with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Responsibilities include collecting, processing and reconciling funds deposited for citation and permit payments. This position is also responsible for responding to numerous customer phone inquiries regarding commercial motor carrier citations and permits.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and procedures.
Knowledge of laws pertaining to weight penalties, safety penalties and fuel violations.
Skilled in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
Skill in data entry.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers verbally and in writing.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to operate general office equipment to include multiline phone and calculator.
Knowledge of basic mathematics.
Ability to verify, enter, update and extract electronically stored information.
Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and assignments.
Ability to maintain confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

Experience in customer service.
Experience performing data entry and/or maintaining databases such as Excel.
Experience composing professional written correspondence.
Experience and/or education in accounting or bookkeeping.
Experience processing deposits, refunds and payments.
Experience working with OrbiPay Credit Card System (CSR), Cashier Receipts System (CRS), Smart Cop or any other database excluding Excel.

General Information

The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
