Job Description
The Public Administrator County of New York is an agency of the City of New York, responsible for administering the estates of residents who die without a will and have no other eligible or willing administrators. The primary duty is to collect and distribute assets, arrange funerals, and administer estates that would otherwise remain unmanaged.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily financial operations, including monitoring transactions on estate files.
Perform monthly reconciliations on all estate bank accounts.
Makes bank deposits and posts interest income to estate accounts.
Provides quarterly interest income reports to PA Counsel and CPA.
Opens and inventories decedents' safe deposit boxes.
Makes revenue estimates, monitors city revenues, and transmits data to NYC Finance Department.
Compiles monthly reports regarding closed estates for Surrogates, NYC Comptroller, and OMB.
Assists with annual report preparation for Office of Court Administration.
Coordinates agency audits and monitors tax reserves.
Qualifications:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including 24 semester credits in accounting, or
A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
At least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
