Role Summary:
The Accountant will be responsible for the accurate processing of day-to-day financial transactions, account reconciliations, tax preparation, and supporting compliance obligations. You will liaise directly with clients (including Turkish-speaking clients), HMRC, and internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of services. You’ll be expected to prepare review-ready files and support the Senior Accountant with workflow handovers and internal quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Reconciliations
Bank, credit card, and petty cash reconciliation
Entering purchase and sales invoices
Allocating payments and receipts
Processing expense claims
Journals & Adjustments
Posting payroll journals
Posting journals for prepayments, accruals, depreciation, and manual entries
Year-end adjustments and trial balance reviews
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Drafting financial statements (FRS 105/102)
Preparing monthly/quarterly management accounts
Submitting accounts to Companies House and filing to HMRC
VAT return preparation (including flat rate & margin scheme)
Preparing EC sales/intrastat returns
Taxation
Corporation tax computations (CT600)
Self-assessment tax returns and client liaison
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) compliance
Client Communication & Support
Resolving bookkeeping queries and drafting responses
Handling client queries related to accounts and tax
Liaising with auditors and HMRC on client matters
Communicating effectively with clients in both Turkish and English
Systems & Documentation
Maintaining accounting software setup (chart of accounts, rules)
Preparing final file documentation
Gathering requested client documentation
Following internal SOPs and contributing to checklist updates
Completing timesheets with clear task notes to support internal review and capacity planning
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of UK accountancy experience (practice or industry)
Solid understanding of UK accounting principles and tax rules
Fluent in Turkish and English (spoken and written)
Proficient in accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Able to work independently and manage deadlines
Proactive communicator who asks questions, flags risks early, or clarify unclear information
Reliable and composed under pressure especially around deadlines or client demands
Desirable:
Experience in a UK accountancy practice
Familiarity with CIS, CT600s, and VAT schemes
Progress toward ACCA, ACA, or similar qualification (preferred but not required)
