Your Opportunity:
The Youth Addiction and Forensic Mental Health portfolio is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic, experienced candidate to join Edmonton’s Youth Stabilization Program. The Youth Stabilization Program is a four bed, 10 day voluntary inpatient social detoxification program available to youth aged 12-18 years old who are harmfully involved in substance use. The focus is on stabilizing the youth, completing a comprehensive assessment, constructing a treatment plan and planning for transition to further services. As an Addiction Counselor within the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessment, individual & group counselling, program development, group facilitation, treatment planning and referrals. In addition to core clinical duties, all members of the team are responsible for ensuring the safe and secure care of the youth attending program. Your knowledge of adolescent developmental issues, substance abuse and concurrent disorders, as well as strong consultation, facilitation and teamwork skills are essential for your success. The successful applicant will have excellent assessment, treatment planning and case management skills within an interdisciplinary model of treatment. You will collaborate with families and professionals in the community and must have an awareness and familiarity with the provincial continuum of addiction services for youth and families. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a 24/7 treatment environment as well as a demonstrated understanding of family centered care.
Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Two years direct counselling experience is required. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing counselling and/or therapy to adolescents. Certification is required in Suicide Prevention, First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Valid class 5 driver’s license, non GDL
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to candidates with experience in addiction and/or mental health settings. Preference given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
