This position is located in the Accounting Services Section in the State Controller’s Office, within the Division of Executive Budget and Finance (DEBF). It will be headquartered at the DOA Office Building at 101 E. Wilson Street, Madison, WI 53703.

The employee hired into this position will be expected to work from their headquarter location at least two days per week with the possibility of working from home the remaining days.

Position Summary

This accounting position is responsible for performing functions to ensure the timely payment and recording of state disbursements and assisting agencies in recording payroll transactions. This position leads the reconciliation of payroll accounting transactions in the General Ledger. In addition, this position calculates the amount of pension obligation bond costs to be allocated to the agencies. This position assists in preparing financial statements and schedules for the Annual Fiscal Report.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (07-02) with a salary between $86,840 and $95,160. In addition, up to $1.00 per hour CPA add-on may be available depending on qualifications. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This position will be expected to work in office at least 2 days per week. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have the following:

Completed a four-year or advanced degree with a major in accounting from an accredited college/university, or commensurate work or professional experience.
Experience performing professional accounting duties such as processing transactions and performing reconciliations, and/or preparing financial reports
Experience utilizing a complex accounting/financial management system such as PeopleSoft or similar
Well qualified candidates may have experience in:

Providing technical advice and consultation on accounting issues
Developing accounting/financial policies and procedures
