The Opportunity

Prospect Schools is seeking a passionate and mission-driven High School Seminar (“Hawk Hour”) Teacher .Prospect teachers are grounded in an equity-driven approach following the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, where instruction emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, global mindedness, and inclusive classroom practices. As an educator at Prospect, you will be part of a collaborative and high-performing instructional team and will report directly to a member of the school leadership team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Planning and Instruction
• Design and implement culturally responsive lesson plans for 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade Seminar (“Hawk Hour”), providing all students with the knowledge, guidance, and support needed to become successful high school students who are college and career ready.
• Internalize and innovate adopted curriculum to support all students in meeting course goals.
• Work with a team of educators to teach a courseload of 1-2 grade levels of students with the following areas of focus:
• 9th Grade: Transition to High School and Foundations of Self
• 10th Grade: Contributing to Community and Foundations of Career
• 11th and 12th Grade: College, Career, and Beyond
• Deliver strong instruction to support students in building awareness and exposure to SEL instruction, community awareness, and the post-secondary landscape
• Create systems for students to complete key actions and milestones (personal statement completion, application completion, financial aid application and completion, maintaining communication with colleges/programs, comparing financial aid award letters, decision-meeting preparation, and enrollment paperwork)
• Engage in strong partnership, coordination and communication via coaching from the Director of Hawk Hour to support progress monitoring of key actions
• Utilize data from classroom assessments to drive instruction and intervention.
• Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with the Hawk Hour Team.
• Commit to ongoing learning about content knowledge and/or willingness to develop knowledge on key topics aligned to post-secondary throughout the course (supplemental essay, admissions landscape, SAT optional policies, undocumented student/family support, etc.)
• Update data and tracking systems consistently and with fidelity

Classroom Environment and student character development
• Set clear expectations and consistent routines to create a purposeful, warm, and supportive learning environment
• Build a culturally sustaining classroom community where all students feel known, safe, valued, and respected by adults and peers

Parent Partnership
• Build relationships and provide ongoing progress updates through regular communication with the families of all students in your classroom
• Utilize family and student feedback to continuously improve the learning experience for your students
• Coordinate and facilitate meetings with families on both an ad hoc basis and during regularly scheduled events, such as Report Card Night

Adult Culture and Teamwork
• Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible in your role and adapt to school and student needs
• Embody a Team First mindset by proactively seeking opportunities to build relationships and collaborate across functional teams, and by actively participating in professional development:
• Collaborate with coach, grade-level chair and school team to improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills.
• Attend all professional development, team planning and data analysis meetings.
• Participate enthusiastically in structured and informal learning and development opportunities.
• Demonstrate a commitment to giving and receiving feedback for the purpose of continuous growth and learning
• Engage in learning opportunities designed to promote stronger Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices at Prospect Schools

• Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
• Strong ability to build positive and transformative relationships with students.
• High level of personal organization and planning, strong systems to monitor task and/or assignment completion.

Candidate Requirements
• You have earned a Bachelor's Degree.
• You have prior teaching experience.

Salary

The salary range for this role starts at $63,960, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. Key Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning and Instruction:
• Study and implement lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.

Overview
Bank Street School for Children's After School program supports families by providing a dynamic range of opportunities for students to pursue creative, intellectual, physical, and social interests outside of standard school hours. It includes snack, outdoor play on the play deck or roof, and choice time in classrooms where students are grouped by age.
Job Summary
The After School Teacher supports the After School "Kids Club" program, a childcare program that cares for School for Children students from dismissal from the school day until timed pickup by families. Under the supervision of the After School Director, and in conjunction with other After School teachers, the Teacher will create a supportive and collaborative classroom environment and use classroom management skills to run and support an energetic classroom of children.
The typical schedule for After School is Monday-Thursday from 3:00-6:00 PM and Friday from 1:00-6:00 PM. Morning hours are also available Monday-Friday 8:00-8:30 AM.
This position runs September - June along the SFC school calendar.
