Opportunities across Health New Zealand
Anaesthetic Technicians at Health New Zealand work in operating theatres and critical care environments across the motu (country), including:
General surgery
Emergency and trauma services
Maternity and obstetric care
Intensive care and high-dependency units
Interventional radiology, endoscopy and cardiac catheterisation labs
Mobile and anaesthesia support in remote or rural hospitals
Depending on the district, you may also have opportunities to develop advanced clinical or leadership skills.
What it's like to work here
Anaesthetic Technicians are key members of the perioperative team, supporting patient care before, during and after procedures. You'll work closely with anaesthetists, nurses and surgical staff to ensure safe anaesthesia delivery.

Salary & benefits
Base Salary: NZD $77,000 – $107,600 (based on the APEX or PSA Allied Health MECA)
Additional Compensation: Penal rates, on-call and higher duties where applicable
You'll also receive:
Reimbursement of your professional registration and APC
Paid Continuing Professional Development (CPD) time and allowance
Professional indemnity cover provided by Health NZ
Four weeks of annual leave per year
Ten days of paid sick leave
Twelve public holidays (plus time in lieu if rostered on)
Fourteen weeks paid parental leave
Long service and special leave entitlements
What you need to work here
To practise as an Anaesthetic Technician in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (MSCNZ) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). International applicants are assessed on their qualifications, clinical experience and fitness to practise.
