VanGATE is seeking a skilled and hands-on Architectural / Interior Designer to join our team in Richmond, BC. Our gate/fence/garage door/home elevator projects include commercial, industrial, and residential properties. The ideal candidate will have strong design capabilities, be familiar with the BC Building Code, and be comfortable working both in the office and on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
Ensure all designs comply with BC Building Code and local regulations
Maintain strong communication with clients, property owners, and subcontractors
Coordinate closely with all stakeholders to ensure projects are completed smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes
Visit job sites to take measurements, support installation, and resolve on-site issues
Assist with material selection and preparation of construction documents
Develop design concepts, layouts, and construction drawings for commercial, industrial, and residential projects
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
Proficient in AutoCAD (required); SketchUp/Revit/Sledworks is an asset
Strong knowledge of BC Building Code (required)
Ability to read and understand construction drawings (required)
Bilingual in English and Mandarin (required)
Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work closely with clients, property owners, and subcontractors
Comfortable working on-site and in a hands-on environment
Experience using power tools is an asset
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to various job sites
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in commercial, industrial, or residential projects
Familiarity with BC permit process and construction practices
Canadian work experience
