Miri Piri Academy (MPA) is looking for talented, adventurous and dedicated individuals for our residential life and academic staff teams in Amritsar, India.
Our school consists of students from 1+ countries, and 60% speak english as a second language. We place a high value on creativity and individual expression throughout our school curriculum. Our Art Teacher will work with students in grades +-12th. Classes average 8 students, and everyone is required to participate in some art electives during their school residency. Our teachers report to the Academic Principal and collaborates with members of other Academic departments, Spiritual Life departments, dorm parents, and advisors.
This position requires residence in India for + months
JOB TITLE: Art Teacher
REPORTING TO: Academic Principal
COLLABORATES WITH: Members of other Academic departments, Spiritual Life departments, dorm parents, and advisors
TEACHING GOALS:
Teach art to beginning through advanced level students.
Foster an exciting, dynamic, and creative learning environment wherein the teaching of skills, techniques and a passion for art are paramount
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of art techniques and pedagogy
Use a variety of art resources in teaching including, drawing, painting, visual arts, graphic arts, and other 2D/3D media
Besides teaching art, this position may also include supervising study time and supporting life skills classes
Model MPA’s Code of Conduct to demonstrate values, attitudes and behaviors that we expect from the students and staff
Contribute to MPA’s community and experience by fully participating in school activities as and when required
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Create an overall vision to enhance the program and expand upon its offerings to further grow and enrich the Creative and Performing Arts Department.
Work collaboratively with other teachers to plan, co-teach and assess an interdisciplinary curriculum
Develop, maintain and continuously update existing unit plans and curriculum-related documents
Embrace MPA’s philosophy of Learning with Purpose by focusing on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills
Encourage and support students to take responsibility for their own learning to become self-directed learners
Take into account the individual learning needs of students by differentiating work accordingly, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and offering out of class opportunities for support
Maintain accurate records of student progress in line with the MPA’s Assessment Policy
Supervise and support MPA learning programs like independent study options, online classes, and learning labs
Contribute to school committees and staff meetings
Participate in annual evaluation and professional growth, taking full advantage of professional development opportunities
Some teachers may serve in a support capacity as an advisor and as a point of contact between home, dorms and school for your advisees
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
To succeed in this role, you will need to have a passion for art and for education, possess excellent communication skills, have a drive towards personal development and enjoy collaborative work. Multilingualism is a plus, as is an interest in sports, Kundalini yoga, gurbani kirtan or other extra-curricular activities.
A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution in primary subject or a related field
Minimum of two years of teaching experience in the relevant subject areas
Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in the classroom
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
International experience in a multicultural environment
Familiarity with Loom, Padlet, Zoom, Office, G Suite
Candidates with arts, music and/or sports teaching experience will be given preference
