Teaching Assistant for Autistic Student
Position: Teaching Assistant
Location: Secondary School
Contract Type: part time
Hours: 8.30 am -16.30 pm
Salary: £85 day rate

About Us:
Axcis is working to recruit a teaching assistant to join a Secondary School in Croydon. The school is a vibrant and inclusive learning community dedicated to fostering the growth and development of all our students, serving a diverse population of children aged 4 to 11 years. Their mission is to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The school prides itself on its strong emphasis on inclusion, understanding, and respect for all learners. They are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled teaching assistant to support a student with autism. In this role, you will assist the classroom teacher in delivering tailored educational programs that focus on both academic and social development. Your support will be essential in helping the student develop communication skills and navigate social interactions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the classroom teacher in delivering personalised educational programs.
• Working 1:1 with students
• Support the student in developing communication and social skills, using appropriate strategies and tools.
• Implement individualised learning strategies and behaviour management techniques to help the student navigate the classroom environment.
• Create a safe and positive learning environment that encourages participation and engagement.
• Collaborate with other staff, teachers, and families to ensure holistic support for the student’s needs.

Requirements:
• Experience working with students on the autism spectrum is preferred.
• Experience of PECs or Makaton is also preferred
• Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and associated learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and adaptability in diverse situations.
