Assistant Director, Salary Indemnity Plan Administrator

Income Security Division

Full-time permanent position


The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), located on the unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlil̓w̓ətaɬ nations since 1+17, is a union of professionals representing over 52,000 public school teachers throughout the province of BC. Please note, this is a full-time, in-person position based at 550 West 6th Avenue, in Vancouver.


Function and purpose

Reporting to the Director, Income Security Division (ISD) and the Executive Director, the Assistant Director, Salary Indemnity Plan Administrator has overall responsibility for the effective operation of the BCTF Salary Indemnity Plan (SIP).


Principal duties and responsibilities

co-ordinates, oversees, and directs the work of case managers and other staff in administering all aspects of the SIP, and works with the Health and Wellness Program Co-ordinator to oversee, monitor, and evaluate service delivery to members
facilitates the SIP short-term appeal functions, oversees recovery of overpayment, garnishees, and court orders
provides advice to members and claimants regarding SIP benefits and related benefits, procedures, and appeals
ensures that service standards are regularly revised, maintained, and evaluated; and evaluates quality and effectiveness of services provided by third-party providers
prepares analytical reports and recommendations to appropriate Federation advisory and governance bodies; and with the Director, advises the Federation on changes to the SIP as required
acts as Plan Administrator for the Long-Term Disability (LTD) plan.

Other duties and responsibilities

with other staff, assists in the administration of the BCTF Rehabilitation Program
administers the BCTF component of joint group life BCTF/BCSTA program, optional life insurance program with Industrial Alliance Pacific, and teachers’ travel insurance with Johnson Insurance
responsible for other duties and Federation initiatives as assigned.

Required qualifications

Education
successful completion of a bachelor's degree
teaching certification.
Experience
familiarity with the SIP and knowledge of EFAP programs and accommodation employment
public school teaching experience, preferably in British Columbia
extensive voluntary and elected service in teacher organizations.
Skills and abilities
excellent administrative, organizational, supervisory, communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills
demonstrated ability to communicate with empathy and clarity
ability to understand medical and psychological terminology
solid understanding of privacy rules and confidentiality requirements
computer proficiency
demonstrated ability to handle complex responsibilities, meet deadlines, maintain protocols and workplace systems, and function as an effective member of a team and manage independent responsibilities.
Other desired qualifications
flexibility to work evenings and weekends
flexibility to travel
ability to communicate in French would be an asset
understanding of issues of social justice, equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion (JEDDI) with a desire to further develop in these areas.
Compensation

A competitive compensation package will be provided including a starting salary of $110,008.5+ per annum (however, may differ if applicant has previous BCTF staff experience), a Special Allowance of $3,280.+2 per annum, and excellent benefits including:
