Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Electorate Officer (AEO) to join our team in the electorate of Currumbin. As an AEO, you will provide direct support to the Electorate Officer and State Member for Currumbin, Mrs Laura Gerber MP. This will include office administration, advising the Member on local and state-wide issues, and assisting in other parliamentary procedures. You will also be responsible for supporting and engaging with constituents, Surf Life Saving Clubs, sporting groups, schools and other community groups as well as general administration of the daily operations of the electorate office which is located on Musgrave Street in Coolangatta.
Your main responsibilities would be:
General administration of the daily operations of the electorate office including: the management of the office, staff, primary inbox, and finances;
Supporting and engaging with constituents and community groups; and
Advising the Member regarding local and state-wide issues.
Key Criteria
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and producing communications for a wide variety of audiences;
Ability to respectfully interact with local constituents, community organisations and businesses regarding state government services and policies;
Demonstrated strategic thinking, sound political judgement, and proven reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments in high pressure situations;
Ability to undertake research including analysing and interpreting legislation (where required) and providing structured recommendations;
Strong administrative skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite including database management;
Ability to multitask, prioritise and exercise a high-level of accountability, initiative, and problem-solving skills; and
Sound knowledge of parliamentary processes.
A typical day in our office consists of:
Managing the primary inbox (actioning emails, updating the electorate diary and liaising with the Members Ministerial team);
Managing the Member's electorate diary including making appointments and arrangements for meetings and events;
Drafting and proofreading correspondence for Ministers and constituents, including emails and letters;
Organising and creating local media opportunities;
Assisting with the management of the Members social media platforms;
Monitoring daily media and news stories;
Day to day operational matters in the Electorate Office;
Managing the financial obligations as set by legislation and Parliamentary Service policy and procedure;
Assisting in the compilation and publishing of newsletters;
IT Management and Research; and
Managing ongoing issues and campaigns in the electorate.
As well as general administrational duties such as:
Liaising with and managing enquiries from constituents, groups and organisations who contact the electorate office for information, assistance and advice (via face-to face, mail or electronic contact)
Maintaining and providing information to assist constituents regarding a range of public services and policies;
Develop, maintain and utilise networks including community referral and assistance networks, and government departmental and/or ministerial office.
