The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the University of Washington offers an outstanding opportunity to join and lead our Behavioral Health program. We invite applications for the faculty position of an Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Practice to join an exciting and growing team with long-established national and international successes in the areas of behavioral health, clinical care, education and research.

This faculty position will serve as the Director of Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH), providing operational oversight, and programmatic direction for integrated behavioral health services within the Department of Family Medicine (DFM). This role is responsible for both internal workforce capacity-building, and clinical program optimization-as well as system integration, ensuring alignment with institutional partners across the UW School of Medicine and UW Medicine. The Director ensures the sustainability, growth, and continuous optimization of IBH services while advancing collaborative partnerships that expand the reach and impact of integrated behavioral health.

This faculty position maintains a clinical practice as an integrated health psychologist within the primary care behavioral health model, delivering evidenced based interventions in collaoration with interdisciplinary care teams.

This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, with accountability to the Vice Chair of Clinical Programs, ensuring seamless integration of IBH services within the department's clinical, educational, and strategic priorities while supporting institutional initiatives in primary care behavioral health innovation.

The Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Practice will hold multi- year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July - June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July - June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Clinical practice track appointments are not eligible for tenure. The anticipated start date would be August 1, 2025, or soon thereafter.

The base salary range for the Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice is: $132,000-$156,000 annually ($ 11,000-$13,000 per month).

The salary for the Associate Professor of Clinical Practice is: $142,008-$170,004 annually ($11,834 - $14,167 per month).

Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UW Physicians practice plan.

Position Description

This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on Behavioral Health. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. This 1.0 FTE position consists of clinical scheduled time (0.7 FTE) and administrative/academic time (0.3 FTE).

The successful candidate will practice clinically at the UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMCP) Clinic Northgate and the Outpatient Meridian Medical Center at UWMC-Northwest and UW Medicine Sports Medicine Clinic at Ballard. Other clinical placements may also be considered based on programmatic needs and candidate expertise.

70% Clinical Deployment

Maintain clinical practice as an integrated behavioral health psychologist, attending and treating patients at the UWMPC Northgate Clinic that serves as the primary training site of the UW Family Medicine Residency Program and other departmental clinic placements throughout the UW Medicine enterprise if needed.

Maintain clinical practice as an integrated behavioral health psychologist within the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model, delivering evidence-based interventions in collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome assessments to advance best practices in integrated behavioral health.

30% Admin Responsibilities

Education:

Contribute to the behavioral health education curriculum of UW Family Medicine residents, including teaching evidence based behavioral practices within the residency curriculum.

Provide clinical supervision and evaluation to Family Medicine residents.

Leadership:

Provide clinical supervision and consultation to behavioral health faculty and trainees, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Ensure high quality of care by the behavioral health program and clinicians who fall under the position's purview.

Explore and strengthen partnerships with UWMPC, the Departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health and Physical & Rehab Medicine, and other institutional stakeholders to expand IBH services and enhance system-wide integration.

Lead the recruitment and deployment of Behavioral Health Clinicians across the identified clinical sites. Clinical supervisory oversight of the behavioral health clinicians as designated by the Department.

Serve as the primary liaison between IBH and department leadership, ensuring visibility and active participation in strategic planning and operational decision-making.

Financial Sustainability

Align and collaborate with the Vice Chair of Administration & Finance, Associate Director of Clinical Programs & Analytics, and Associate Director of Finance to ensure the financial sustainability of IBH services within the broader departmental and institutional framework.

Partner with finance and administrative leadership to explore funding opportunities, service line expansions, and grant applications to sustain and enhance IBH programs.

Provide clinical and operational insights to support strategic financial planning efforts, helping integrate IBH services into reimbursement models, optimize revenue streams, and enhance fiscal stability.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must hold a Doctorate in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) and have a minimum of five years of experience in primary care behavioral health practice. Board certification is preferred.

Training and Experience:

Candidates should demonstrate robust training and experience in integrated behavioral health (IBH) in primary care, with a clear record of leadership and supervision in clinical settings. Prior experience directing IBH services and/or leading behavioral health education is required.
