Job Description

Full job description
Why Southwark?

Are you ready to bring the spotlight to life? Southwark Council is on the lookout for a talented Audio-Visual (AV) Technician to join our dynamic Facilities Team. This is your chance to work across some of London’s most iconic civic venues, where no two days are the same.

At Southwark, you’ll be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking council that puts people, technology, and service excellence at its core. You’ll have the platform to shape AV services that truly make an impact, supporting collaboration, innovation, and the borough’s strategic vision.

Here’s why this role is a game-changer:

Front Row to Impact: Deliver flawless AV support for high-profile events, council meetings, and corporate functions that shape the future of our borough.
Cutting-Edge Kit: Work hands-on with the latest AV, lighting, and webcasting technologies while keeping our equipment sharp, serviced, and event ready.
Creative & Commercial: Showcase your technical flair while contributing to Southwark’s income generation through first-class delivery of external events.

What You'll Be Doing
Set up, operate and troubleshoot AV, lighting, sound, IT and webcasting systems.
Deliver seamless technical productions, anticipating and solving issues with calm professionalism.
Transport, rig and de-rig AV equipment across multiple Southwark sites.
Independently run events – from internal meetings to large-scale corporate functions.
Liaise with clients to capture requirements, propose solutions, and upsell services where appropriate.
Plan technical operations: pre-programming lighting and sound desks, preparing presentations, and managing event logistics.
Maintain AV equipment, software and service records, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Respond to helpdesk tickets quickly, diagnosing and fixing faults to keep services running.

What We're Looking For
Subject matter expertise in sound, lighting, video or IT – plus solid knowledge across the rest.
Live events experience, with confidence in fault-finding and hands-on maintenance.
Physically fit, with the ability to lift and transport AV equipment safely.
Up-to-date knowledge of health & safety best practices in AV environments.
Strong knowledge of modern Audio-Visual systems, trends, and event technology.
Substantial hands-on AV and event production experience – ideally in-house or with an AV supplier.
Proven track record in managing sound, lighting, and IT for large-scale events.
Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, from AV technicians to senior executives.
Sharp problem-solving ability with an eye for continuous improvement and innovation.
Tech-savvy with Microsoft Office proficiency and the ability to get the best from digital tools.
Enjoy a balanced approach with flexible home working.
