Job Title: Azure SQL DBA - L2 Position: Sr. Software Engineer Experience: 8-10 Years Category: Software Development/ Engineering Main location: India, Karnataka, Bangalore Position ID: J- Employment Type: Full Time Responsibilities: L2 Azure SQL DBA •SQL DB Administration in a 247 environment - SQL Server / R2//16 •Must have worked in similar capacity at an MNC in Outsourcing/ technology and consulting services firm •Exceptional team player who has fantastic communication & colloboaration skills with every stakeholders •Master in performance troubleshooting, High Availability issues, DB Architecture. •Expert in designing DBA solutions for complex infra requirements. •Good work experience in MS Azure & other cloud platforms in hosting DB environments. •Expertise in business continuity planning and disaster recovery practices •Must have financial acumen; budgeting; reducing cost of operations; knowledge of Capex; Opex; resource costing •Expertise in client/vendor management - crucial conversations towards mutual success •Ability to work effectively in diverse; virtual and multi-cultural environments •Able to work in an unstructured environment and bring structure to a problem; synthesize issues. •Expert in managing conflicts & strong leadership skills Key Deliverables/Responsibilities The DBA is responsible for the following activities: •Perform operational DBA duties, including installation, database upgrades, patching, environment cloning, implementing backup/recovery and monitoring procedures, capacity planning, and performance tuning and site failover/switchover •Design, architect, build Microsoft SQL databases from determining business requirements to planning and deploying test and production systems. •Interface with application development teams to resolve problems with application/database systems. •Take part to 24/7/ operations in a business-critical environment •Working with global teams •Manage multiple applications or service areas and projects simultaneously to ensure on-time response, quality delivery and resolutions •Support continues improvement through optimizations of systems and processes for existing and new applications and services Experience Required Essential Technical Requirements • Over 10 years related experience • Significant knowledge of SQL Server; this will be your passion and you will be required to get under the bonnet of a live system, coming up with innovative solutions. • Expertise with High Availability technologies i.e. Failover Clusters & Availability Groups • Have worked for at least 5 years in a 24/7 environment before and will have worked alongside developers and other stakeholders. • Strong understanding of relational database architecture concepts • Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills • Excellent communication skills • Strong hands-on experience administering large, high volume 24/7 SQL platforms • Experience in implementing and managing databases in complex enterprise environments, with business application and third-party products, solutions, and technologies • Ability to handle multiple deliverables, both scheduled and unscheduled, like deployments, builds, scheduled batch activities or jobs, issue/incident management, problem management, etc. • Ability to communicate technical issues to business leaders as well as to communicate business drivers to engineers • Proven analytical abilities and using data/facts for decision-making • Good working knowledge of database technologies leveraging IaaS & PaaS Desirable Skills: Oracle Database Administration, Azure PaaS, T-SQL, SSIS package deployment Competencies specific for this role: • Four years university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 10 years equivalent work experience. • Good understanding of ITIL & Service Management. • Possess the necessary formal presentation skills, and excellent work ethic. • Experience and understanding of risk management and risk mitigation activities. Behavioral Competencies • Proven experience of delivering process efficiencies and improvements • Clear and fluent English (both verbal and written) • Ability to build and maintain efficient working relationships with remote teams • Demonstrate ability to take ownership of and accountability for relevant products and services • Ability to plan, prioritise and complete your own work, whilst remaining a team player • Willingness to engage with and work in other technologies At least 8 years of industry experience managing databases environments At least 6 years of experience in SQL Server Administration, Azure Data Factory, Data Lakes, Blob Storage, Azure SQL and recent SQL synapse analytics experience along with Microsoft Azure certification Azure SQL DBA experience with Azure Data Warehouse knowledge Well versed with Azure SQL Administrative tasks Performance Tuning, Database Optimization, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related troubleshooting tools Great handson knowledge on Query performance tuning Indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching Good understanding on query structure, collation, indexing SQL database backup, restore and recoveries SQL Server replications and database mirroring Configuration of SQL Servers; Clustering, log shipping, mirroring, etc SQL Server failover cluster management SQL Server Agent jobs scheduling and monitoring. Database designs tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc Troubleshooting the connectivity issues between On-premises data and Azure data storage through data management gateway. Initial troubleshooting and service request lifecycle management for all cases and customer engagements related to SQL Server Analytics Platform System edition Monitoring of the data pipelines in Azure Portal, Checking the trigger execution, data processing status. Knowledge of Notification alerts on the Azure Strong experience in Azure SQL DB and Expertise in writing fine tuning stored procedures. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS Knowledge of Microsoft Azure storage containers(BLOBS) Strong handson experience on AlwaysOn Availability Groups Trouble shoot and resolve Geo-Cluster AlwaysOn Availability groups Maintain database security and set up user accounts to control logins to the database. Deploy and trouble shoot SSIS packages and provide solutions Development and enhancements of SSIS packages. Knowledge of Database Encryption (On-Premises, Azure). Knowledge with Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Cosmos DB (NoSQL). Knowledge on SQL Server locking and deadlocks and the ability to provide solutions to minimize them.
