Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and hard-working Medical laboratory assistant with a keen eye for detail to join our very busy Microbiology team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The department is accredited to UKAS ISO 1518+:2012 standards and currently in a transition to UKAS 1518+:2022 standards.
We serve a population of approximately half a million people and processes over 410,000 tests per year providing a comprehensive diagnostic service including Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Serology and Molecular testing.
Applicants should have a good basic standard of education to match NVQ Level 2, GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English, and Science subjects, plus basic keyboard and communication skills.
Experience is preferable but not essential, as full training shall be provided.
Your duties will involve work in Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Serology and Molecular.
In addition to the receipt of goods and deliveries, the post holder will be responsible for sorting, labelling, booking and culturing a variety of samples.
The successful applicant will be expected to safely deal with laboratory waste.
All duties and tasks should be performed in accordance with SOP's and if queries are encountered these should be referred to the MLA Supervisor, Biomedical Scientist or Senior BMS, as appropriate.
