Youth & Family Therapist (Clinician) – FIRM Program
Job Type: Full-Time, 18-month Contract (with potential for renewal or permanent)
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (some evenings and weekends required)
Location: Mississauga office with travel across Peel Region
Compensation: $70,000–$75,000 annually + benefits + mileage reimbursement
Reports to: Program Manager – FIRM

About the FIRM Program
The Family Intervention and Reunification Management (FIRM) Program prevents youth homelessness by strengthening family relationships, supporting safe reunification where appropriate, and helping youth build sustainable “Circles of Care.”
Through culturally responsive therapy, mediation, and systems navigation, we address the root causes of family breakdown and housing instability for Black, African, and Caribbean youth and families.
Position Overview
REST Centres is seeking a compassionate, skilled Youth & Family Therapist (Clinician) to deliver frontline therapeutic and family intervention services.
This is a clinical, community-based role for a licensed professional who is experienced in family therapy, youth mental health, mediation, and trauma-informed care.
You will work directly with youth and families to rebuild trust, resolve conflict, strengthen support systems, and prevent homelessness.
This role is ideal for a therapist who wants to move beyond office-based counselling and make tangible, life-changing impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities1. Family Therapy & Mediation
Provide culturally responsive family therapy, counselling, and mediation
Facilitate reunification conversations and restorative dialogue
Address family conflict, communication breakdown, and relational trauma
Support families to rebuild healthy, long-term relationships
Deliver psychoeducation and family workshops
2. Youth Clinical Support
Conduct comprehensive psychosocial and family assessments
Develop individualized service and care plans
Provide short-term therapeutic interventions and crisis support
Help youth build “Circles of Care” and natural support networks
Support emotional regulation, coping, and resilience
3. Case Coordination & Advocacy
Connect families to housing, mental health, education, and community supports
Collaborate with schools, CAS, and service partners
Advocate for youth navigating systemic barriers
Participate in interdisciplinary case consultations
4. Community Outreach & Partnerships
Build referral pathways with schools, grassroots groups, and faith-based organizations
Represent REST Centres at community meetings and events
Increase awareness of FIRM services within Peel Region
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate clinical notes and client records
Track outcomes and contribute to monthly/quarterly reports
Support program evaluation and continuous improvement
QualificationsRequired
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Psychotherapy, or related field
Registration in good standing with one of the following:
Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (RSW/RSSW)
College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (RP or RP Qualifying)
Or eligibility to register within 6 months
3–5+ years experience providing family therapy, youth counselling, or clinical support
Experience working with Black, African, and Caribbean communities
Strong understanding of anti-Black racism, systemic inequities, and housing instability
Trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice lens
Excellent mediation and conflict resolution skills
Strong documentation and reporting skills
Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Vulnerable sector screening clearance
Assets
Experience supporting youth at risk of homelessness or child welfare involvement
Training in family systems, wraparound, or reunification models
Group facilitation experience
Community or grassroots engagement experience
