Role Overview
MP Financial Group is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Business Underwriter to join the team. This individual will be responsible for evaluating the creditworthiness of business loan applicants by performing deep-dive analyses of financial statements, tax returns, and operational data. The primary goal is to assess risk accurately while identifying opportunities to support the growth of the firm's diverse clientele.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis: Review and analyze year-over-year financial statements (Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Cash Flow), tax returns, and bank statements for corporate entities.
Risk Assessment: Evaluate credit reports, collateral, and industry-specific risks to determine the viability of funding requests.
Debt Service Coverage: Calculate DSCR, debt-to-equity ratios, and other key financial metrics to ensure borrowers meet internal and lender-specific guidelines.
Underwriting Reports: Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums and narratives that summarize findings and provide clear recommendations for approval or decline.
Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to provincial and federal financial regulations, as well as internal company policies.
Collaboration: Work closely with the sales and funding teams to gather necessary documentation and clarify financial discrepancies with clients.
Qualifications
Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting, business credit analysis, or a similar role within a financial institution.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial modeling and Microsoft Excel. Experience with CRM and loan LOS (Loan Origination Systems) is an asset.
Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to "read between the lines" of financial data to identify potential red flags or hidden strengths in a business.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing detailed reports and communicating with stakeholders.

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
