About the Opportunity
We’re currently looking for a Category Manager to join the Metcash team. In this role, you’ll lead the planning, development, and execution of channel-specific trade strategies. You’ll work closely with national and local suppliers to negotiate competitive offers, curate compelling product ranges, and deliver strong value propositions that drive sales for our IGA supermarket network. Innovation, differentiation, and strategic supplier partnerships will be key to your success. We have several opportunities available within our Buying team.
What You’ll Be Doing
Deliver on retail sales targets and income budgets while improving cost of goods sold (COGS)
Develop and implement category ranges, pricing strategies, and promotional plans aligned with channel priorities
Use data and insights to drive category growth and become the go-to expert within the business
Manage supplier relationships, ensuring strong performance (DIFOT, Joint Business Plans, engagement) and profitability across wholesale and retail
Negotiate favourable commercial outcomes for both Metcash and our retailers
Lead the strategy for private label products within your category
Conduct regular performance reviews and recommend improvements to optimise trading results
About You:
Strong negotiation skills and a proven ability to drive mutual value with suppliers
Experience in Category Management, particularly in promotional planning
Solid understanding of shopper behaviour and category trends within the FMCG sector
A customer-first mindset with the ability to influence across internal and external stakeholder groups
Sharp commercial acumen and a clear understanding of what drives success in category performance
A demonstrated track record of delivering actionable and effective category strategies
