Job Description

This role is crucial to the success of Greencross Vets with a strong focus on supplier relationships, trading terms negotiations, strategic pricing and marketing effectiveness. Embedded within the Veterinary Operations team, the position collaborates across retail and commercial teams to achieve its objectives.

An Overview Of Our Role

The Category Manager, Vet Services will be responsible for:

Achieving budgeted sales, gross margin ($GM), and gross margin percentage (GM%) targets by supplier category.
Developing and executing category strategies to drive desired outcomes.

Strategy, Planning & Budgets

Develop category strategies using customer and market insights and financial analysis to grow market share profitably.
Review and report monthly sales, inventory, and margin results versus budgets and implement corrective action plans.
Collaborate with the Vet Procurement team to ensure ongoing stock availability.

Commercial

Negotiate trading terms with suppliers to improve margins and remain competitive in a disruptive environment.
Regularly negotiate and improve promotional funding and other discretionary spend or business efficiencies.
Develop strong partnerships with the Retail Category Team and Commercial Teams to negotiate group spending and outcomes with shared suppliers.
Work with the Procurement team to drive operational outcomes at sites for negotiated commercial terms.

Pricing and Promotions

Consistently review, analyse, and recommend improvements to marketing, campaign, and promotional plans to meet strategic goals and budgeted outcomes.
Use customer insights to drive targeted tactics and offers to improve effectiveness and ROI.
Collaborate closely with the Marketing Department to execute promotions, marketing, PR, and social campaigns effectively.
Define the role of each product type/brand and the appropriate pricing strategy by channel in conjunction with the Pricing team to maximise market share and profitability.

Team

Work seamlessly with the Vet Procurement Team, embedding into their working rhythms and aligning on shared priorities.
Foster strong stakeholder relationships with General Managers of Veterinary Business, Retail Category Teams, Finance Teams, and the Strategy & Innovation Team.
Ensure regular communication with all parts of the business.

Qualifications

A little about you and your background:

We are looking for a pricing professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, and challenging environment. You will work autonomously while maintaining strong relationships with the operations teams.

At least 5 years experience in a Buying role, ideally with line management experience
Strong commercial negotiator with proven track record of success with major suppliers
Independent operator with a passion for veterinary industry & desire to progress
Proactive, accountable, shows initiative & the drive to achieve results
Goal orientated – setting objectives & managing challenges
Reasoned problem solving – identifying issues, providing solutions
Proven ability to be organised, to prioritise, be flexible and agile
Strong understanding of Veterinary or Health-related environments, sound business acumen
Strong communication & people skills
Team player with both internal & external stakeholders
Proven ability to prioritise and excellent time management skills
Intermediate to Advance Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel
