Job Description
Catena Carbon is seeking a Chemical Engineering Technician to support laboratory operations, experimental development, and process optimization in a fast-paced research environment.
This is a hands-on, on-site role focused on chemical testing, pilot operations, and analytical work across advanced materials and industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities
● Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses
● Operate and maintain laboratory and pilot-scale equipment
● Perform sampling, testing, and analytical procedures
● Compile and interpret experimental data and results
● Support development of chemical engineering processes
● Assist in design and fabrication of experimental apparatus
● Prepare reagents, solutions, and formulations
● Contribute to health & safety standards and protocols
● Troubleshoot processes and support method development
Required Qualifications
● Master’s degree in: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
● 1–2 years of relevant experience in lab or industrial settings
● Strong working knowledge of:
○ Analytical and physical separation techniques
○ Sampling and thermal analysis
○ MS Excel and standard lab tools
Preferred Experience
● Industrial chemicals or petrochemicals
● Process troubleshooting and method development
● Materials, inorganic, organic, or physical chemistry
● Pilot plant or experimental system operation
● Green economy / environmental technologies
Work Environment
● On-site in Ottawa (no remote option)
● Laboratory / research facility setting
● Conditions may include hot environments, dust exposure, fast-paced workflow
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Compensation & Benefits
● Salary: $55,000 – $65,000
● Schedule: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
● Start Date: As soon as possible
