The Chief Pharmacy Officer establishes the vision for Nevada Health Centers Pharmacy Services to support and sustain excellence in delivering pharmacy services and will provide business and operational rigor to effectively manage and grow pharmacy services. This position is responsible for all aspects of strategic planning, medication safety and quality, business development, maintaining internal and external collaborative partnerships, federal, state and local regulatory oversight and planning and continuous improvement activities to deliver exceptional patient, clinician, and financial outcomes. This individual will also work closely with the Director of Pharmacy Operations (DPO) on business and operational oversight on behalf of Pharmacy Services.

The Chief Pharmacy Officer must establish strong collaborative relationships with key business and clinical leaders throughout the organization. The individual is expected to understand and assess the external healthcare and pharmacy environments and to develop short- and long-term plans to ensure that Nevada Health Centers is well-positioned for current and future success.

The Chief Pharmacy Officer is expected to engage with clinicians, business leaders, and others to further integrate pharmacy services into seamless care delivery processes across the care continuum.

Operational (with DPO)
• Work closely with the DPO to develop organization-wide pharmacy mission, vision and goals.
• Work closely with executive leadership to strategically plan, organize and direct pharmacy operations across the organization.
• Set overall strategy for the organization and unify internal pharmacy units.
• Collaborate with the CMO to execute policy and formulary decisions, as well as the development of the Collaborative Practice Agreement.
• Anticipate and strategize on plans to address new drug costs and supply chain related shortages.
• Attend designated monthly committee meetings as directed by the CEO and/or the CMOs or CIO.

Leadership
• Provides leadership at the organizational level to ensure that pharmacists are positioned to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of medication management throughout the health system.
• Provides direct supervision over the clinical pharmacists and pharmacy managers.
• Provide oversight of both retail and clinical pharmacy by leading the pharmacy staff, clinical leaders and providers as an integrated department of NVHC.
• Support local pharmacy leaders on new initiative execution.
• Develop, implement, and sustain a workforce pipeline strategy across the organization.
• Proactively advocate for pharmacy practice advancement and improved patient care.
• Regularly communicates with external professional contacts and resources for informational and advocacy efforts that benefit the organization.

Clinical
• Provides oversight and development of systems which ensure optimal therapeutic drug utilization and quality of all departmental services and activities throughout the continuum of care.
• Ensure the provision of evidence and/or reasoning behind clinical decisions that are made impacting patients or patient care.
• Determines the appropriate number, type and qualification of staff required to meet patient care needs, satisfy regulatory and accrediting requirements, achieve the organization’s mission and advance pharmacy practice.
• Communicate effectively with clinical staff and Providers.

Regulatory
• Optimize and manage all aspects of clinical and retail pharmacy including compliance with the 340B program.
• Provide clinical and retail pharmacy leadership in the areas of medication use, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, financial performance, research, and clinical trials.
• Align and coordinate efforts for HRSA site visits and audit preparedness across the organization.
• Establish, maintain and manage organization’s 340B internal pharmacy and contract pharmacy programs
• Maintains knowledge and compliance with 340B regulation/licensing.
• Coordinate implementation of 340B databases and interfaces with the Director of Programing and Efficiency to create and ensure program participation and

Financial (with DPO)
• Working with the DPO, develop annual budgets and manage pharmacy financial performance to align with organizational objectives.
• Attend monthly pre-close meeting, reporting and explaining any financial variances.
• Develops and implements strategies for cost containment.
• Seeks opportunities to implement medication related services that can improve the financial health of the organization.

Informatics
• Incorporate new technologies that enhance operational performance OR leverage technology and automated systems to optimize the medication use system.
• Provides leadership at the organizational level regarding planning, purchasing, implementing and maintaining information systems that support patient care.
• Responsible for the adoption of a long-term perspective and commits themselves to achieving the patient-safety innovations made feasible by Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and other clinical applications.

Utilize technology enabled medication management data to capture and report pharmacy metrics and to drive improvements in patient care and outcomes.
• Nevada Pharmacist License
• Doctor of Pharmacy required. Master’s in business administration preferred.
• 10 (minimum 8) years of pharmacy management or administration experience with oversight for fiscal management.
• 5 years of previous experience with retail and clinical pharmacy in a community pharmacy setting
• Familiarity or 5 years of experience with the Federal 340B Drug Pricing Program and related compliance and auditing requirements.
• Familiarity or 5 years of experience with the Contract Pharmacy Program.
• Prefer past experience in developing and implementing pharmacy services.
• Extensive supervisory experience of greater than 20 employees.
