The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health center integrated with the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). GH-CCMH is also a member of the Thriving Minds Mental Health Access Collaborative with CAMH and SickKids and a core service provider in the Toronto sector of infant, child and youth mental health services funded by the Ministry of Health. GH-CCMH provides prevention, early intervention and health promotion services across the city, funded by MOH and other sources. As such, the Center has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care, offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention to counseling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are offered in person and in virtual format. We are currently seeking applicants for a skilled Child and Family Therapists for our Community Outreach & Intervention Initiative (COII). The intent of the COII program is to address the needs of clients residing in three priority areas who do not seek or engage with traditional service models (cannot attend an agency site, do not have a safe space at home for virtual care) by enabling a pathway of service that travels to the client or builds access in a safe, appropriate environment (e.g., community site, home).

The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team, and have access to experts in the field, ongoing clinical supervision & support, as well as training and development opportunities. The Child and Family Therapist will provide direct mental health treatment services, including individual, family and/or group treatment to clients within the context of the family, school, and community. Key Responsibilities

Therapeutic Services

Work collaboratively with external stakeholders in the community to engage with children, youth and families who otherwise may not connect with mental health services
Provides individualized, assessment, treatment, and follow-up services
Provides Single Session therapy with the team as well as other brief services as needed
Provides case management, liaison, and referral services for clients
Provides virtual and telephone treatment as needed.
Coordinates services with internal and external service providers, requesting and reviewing existing documentation and reports to inform client service and treatment planning
Collaborates with the family, the supervisor, and inter-professional teams in the development of a service plan and to support treatment planning
Facilitate therapy groups for families with young children
Completes all client documentation (including, but not limited to, contact notes, service plans, treatment reports, incident/serious occurrence reports, referral forms, etc.) in a timely and succinct manner meeting agency, professional and legal requirements
Ensures that all required client tracking, and statistical information is submitted according to Agency Procedures
Promotes the direction of the program and Centre by engaging in identifying, developing, and implementing program goal(s), projects, or services
Participates in relevant meetings, reports regularly, and as required to the designated supervisor
Contributes to the Centre’s academic mandate and to the field of children’s mental health through training, education, and/or the supervision and evaluation of students/trainees/volunteers
May provide services both in-office and within client’s homes and communities
May be required to supervise students
Other

Complies with the organization’s vision, policies, and procedures
Performs other tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications

This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in a mental health discipline (if from outside Ontario, must demonstrate that all registration requirements can be met at time of hiring)
Experience and understanding of issues of marginalization and oppression are necessary to work in this role.
Registration with the relevant accrediting professional body is required
Minimum 3 years related experience in children’s mental health treatment, working in communities.
CPR/First Aid and behaviour management training is an asset
Possess above-average skills in family/child engagement, assessment, formulation, and treatment
Ability to apply a cultural humility lens and values of equity in all aspects of work.
Ability to use computer software tools and resources, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Working Conditions

Works flexible hours to meet the needs of the clients
Travel to provide service in community and attend meetings or programs off-site
