Chrome Technician

Summary
The Chrome Technician is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and preparing parts for chroming and polishing of hydraulic cylinders while meeting the customer requirements and any applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. This position will obtain information such as job instructions from company documentation, the “traveller”, and will ensure that all work is complying with environmental, quality, health and safety standards.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
· Meet production schedules and timelines to deliver products on schedule.
· Train other personnel within chroming department or other RHK employees.
· Be aware of and execute relevant policies, procedures, and tools related to quality, environmental, and health and safety.
· Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, including proper handling and disposal of waste products into appropriate environmental disposal containers.
· Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine materials for the job and setup requirements.
· Communicate with lead hands, designers, and other personnel for assignments and to resolve quality issues.
· Prepare surfaces of hydraulic cylinders by either grinding or polishing.
· Mask areas of cylinder that do not require chroming.
· Maintain all consumables for blasting (i.e., media, nozzles, etc.).
· Ensure proper solution temperature through the electronic thermostatic controller.
· Regularly empty and clean the large blast booth and all other blasters used in the chroming department.
· Improve processes and tooling to streamline processes.
· Utilize the strip tank to remove unwanted chrome from parts.
· Complete appropriate pre-start checklists to ensure the rectifier is adjusted to correct polarity, amperage output, and there is no conductive shorting.
· Visually inspect the plating operation to ensure process is operational.
· Assist in adding chemicals to the plating bathes to ensure proper balances are maintained.
· Analyze chrome and notify lead hand of any discrepancies.
· Report all equipment breakdowns to lead hand and make minor or temporary repairs when possible.
· Inspection of parts and determine acceptability using precision measuring equipment.
· Update and familiarize self with manuals and correct handling of chemicals and hazardous waste.
· Complete required documentation.
· Lifts workpiece manually or with an overhead crane and secures it appropriately.
· Keep up to date with industry standards and practices.
· Work in a safe, team-oriented environment and participate as an active member of the implementation and execution of ‘Lean’ principles.
· Maintain company standards and conform to the requirements of the Quality Management System.
· Participates regularly and actively in all aspects of the health and safety program including but not limited to safe work practices, habits, industrial hygiene and good housekeeping.
· Other tasks as required.
Requirements
· High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Post-secondary education in industrial technologies, hydraulic systems, mechanics, millwright or electronics preferred.
· Experience with working in a chrome department in a manufacturing environment preferred.
· Positive attitude with ability to ensure compliance with all quality, environmental, and health and safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
· Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
· Strong work ethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
· Electrical knowledge including electrical circuitry, positive/negative, anode/cathode placement, AC/DC power supplies, rectifiers, and have experience working with hazardous chemicals and acids.
· Proven safety record, pass a “respirator fit test” and experienced with PPE used in plating with hazardous chemicals (i.e. hearing, hand, eye, respirator as required).
· Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment required to do the job.
· Advanced knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings and specifications in support of quality requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to operate an overhead crane in a safe manner.
· Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
· Have a positive team-oriented attitude, strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Working Environment/Physical Demands
· Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, mechanical parts, and vibration.
· Noise level in the work environment can be loud.
· Required to stand for long periods of time.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· 40-hour work week.
· Manual dexterity required.
