Your Role

The Hall School is seeking an inspiring and committed Cello Teacher to join our thriving and inclusive Music Department at this leading boys’ preparatory school. We are looking for a skilled practitioner with the ability to teach pupils from Year 1 to Year 8, working across a wide range of abilities-from complete beginners through to advanced players preparing for music scholarships and specialist school entry.

The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant and ambitious string programme, supporting pupils in both individual progression and ensemble performance. You will play a key role in maintaining the school’s strong tradition of musical excellence through:
• Individual cello tuition (self-employed Visiting Music Teacher basis)
• Preparing pupils for ABRSM examinations
• Coaching pupils for concert performances and school events
• Supporting and developing pupils aiming for music scholarships
• Maintaining strong, professional communication with parents

Teaching Arrangements (Self-Employed)
• Lessons are contracted directly with parents
• Teachers currently charge £54 per hour, with a planned increase from September 2026.
• Teaching allocation is currently 1–2 days per week, depending on pupil sign-ups each September

Employed Chamber & Ensemble Work

In addition to individual teaching, the role includes 2 hours 25 minutes of employed work, which involves:
• Coaching string chamber ensembles
• Supporting school string groups and orchestras
• Assisting with rehearsals and ensemble preparation across the department

This employed element comes with staff benefits, and the rate from September 2026 is £58.45.

Availability

Due to ensemble scheduling and room availability, the successful candidate must be available:
• Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00am onwards

We Are Looking For Someone Who

• Has experience working with young musicians across a wide age and ability range
• Can inspire pupils and develop confidence, discipline, and musicality
• Works effectively as part of a collaborative and supportive music team
• Builds positive, professional relationships with parents and colleagues

The Hall School offers a dynamic and supportive environment where music plays a central role in school life. We are proud of our high standards, strong ensemble culture, and commitment to nurturing every child’s musical potential.

We are a thriving and successful selective preparatory school for boys aged 4-13 in North London, providing a high-calibre education to approximately 470 pupils. Our goal is to foster a happy, secure, and energetic community where both pupils and staff can flourish.

We welcome applications from candidates across all school settings. Located in Belsize Park, our school is easily accessible via the Metropolitan, Jubilee, and Northern Underground lines.

The Hall is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and standard pre-employment clearances, including professional references.
