Job Description
As a Clinical Laboratory Geneticist, responsibilities include shared coverage, technical oversight, case interpretation, reporting, and consultation of genetic tests, as well as participation in the laboratory quality assurance program, development and monitoring of laboratory protocols, and other administrative responsibilities. Participating in research and development initiatives to improve genetic testing methodologies and expand test offerings. Teaching responsibilities may include education of medical students, residents, clinical fellows, as well as staff and students within the laboratory.
The genetic testing is performed using various techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing, gene panels and exomes, and/or cytogenetic analysis; Interpretation of complex genetic data, including identifying genetic mutations, variants, and chromosomal abnormalities relevant to patient diagnoses; collaboration with other medical specialists and genetic counsellors.
This position requires excellent analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills with a focus on leadership development. Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, experience in quality assurance, operational efficiency.
