About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Rheumatology is responsible for providing specialist nursing care and expertise both in direct care delivery and in the provision of nursing expertise and guidance to other staff in the management, monitoring and surveillance of a defined patient group/area of specialty practice. This includes patients with arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, including inflammatory arthritis and other systemic autoimmune disorders. The CNS Rheumatology will be proactive in researching, evaluating, developing and implementing standards of nursing practice and take a lead role in the development of pathways, protocols, and guidelines in the rheumatology area of practice.

The CNS Rheumatology has a key resource role in supporting and enhancing the delivery of timely, effective care to patients. They will facilitate nurse-led clinics and concurrent clinics alongside the Rheumatologist; coordinate multidisciplinary care for complex presentations; promote evidence based principles and practices; and promote timely access to appropriate services in consultation and collaboration with the Rheumatologist and other internal and external health care providers as required.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be part of a supportive, high functioning Medical Nurse Specialist Team based at Rotorua Hospital comprised of designated senior nurses responsible for the provision of expert nursing care, advice and support to defined patient groups/areas of specialty practice.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate a confident, positive, resilient and supportive manner, and will enjoy working autonomously and as part of a team in a challenging environment. They will ideally possess the following skills and abilities:

New Zealand Nursing Council registration and a current practicing certificate
Post-graduate qualification.
Previous designated senior nurse role experience
Expert knowledge of the pathophysiology, management and treatment of patients with arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Experience working independently and interdependently, assuming accountability and responsibility for your actions, making critical decisions in challenging and complex situations. This will include facilitating nurse led clinics.
Sound organisational abilities to prioritise, delegate and meet required timelines.
Basic computer literacy
Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
Current NZ Driving Licence
