Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role

Delivery of Coastcare planting bees and site preparation, as directed by the Biodiversity Officer.

Fixed-Term Part-time role.

Coordinate volunteers at planting bees (alongside key community members).

Organise the supply, allocation, and delivery of plant orders to Coastcare groups.

Implement on-site health and safety processes and report incidents or near misses as soon as possible. Contribute actively to a positive health and safety culture.

Interested in a career in Biodiversity?

Ability to work weekends? This is when planting events are typically held and occasional long days.

Hours are 32 hours per week.

Experience working on community-focused restoration projects or engagement activities, ideally with some coastal and/or ecological and Health & Safety knowledge.

An ability to coordinate large-scale restoration plantings, from planning through to execution.

Form positive relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders – e.g., landowners, tangata whenua, DOC, other councils.

Familiarity with Microsoft Suite and general administration tasks.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

A qualification, or currently studying towards a qualification, in restoration, ecology or other biological science discipline, or equivalent.

One-year relevant experience including customer engagement, restoration planting, ecological field work and council experience, or similar.

The Biodiversity team is a multi-disciplinary and experienced team working across the mighty Waikato, from Tongariro to the Lower Waikato, from the wild west coast to Coromandel’s east coast.

You will be part of the Biodiversity Sites Unit delivering Coastcare plantings up and down the region’s mighty west coast.
