Temporary Clerk Grade 7/8 ($113,574 -$125,720) opportunity based at Government House Sydney, commencing 2 March 2026 until 13 August 2026.
About the Role
As a Communications Officer, you will compose and edit speeches, messages, media releases, and citations, take photographs, assist with video production, and coordinate with media outlets and official photographers for coverage of Vice Regal activities. You’ll liaise with stakeholders and ensure best-practice communications for program elements and official events.
The role also involves identifying new content trends, optimising digital content for search, and editing scripts for ceremonial occasions. Expect to work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver timely, accurate, and engaging communications that reflect the priorities and values of Government House.
This role is currently being offered on a temporary basis commencing 2 March 2026 until 13 August 2026 with the potential to extend or convert to ongoing.

Government House Sydney
Government House Sydney, the residence, and the seat of administration of the Governor of New South Wales – the oldest statutory office in Australia - is staffed by employees of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. The team at Government House Sydney supports the Governor in the conduct of constitutional, ceremonial and community duties.

We're Looking For
Communication Expertise: Superior written and oral skills to create, edit, and deliver content across multiple platforms in the context of an energetic program.
Digital Media Capability: Experience producing engaging digital and social media content, with knowledge of current trends and tools.
Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external partners, including media, representatives of community organisations and government agencies.
Research & Analytical Skills: Strong research abilities to ensure communications reflect current knowledge, policy, and best practice, with sensitivity to context and audience.
