Community Strength and Balance Trainer – Counties Manukau

💰 $3,800 - $6,080 (Est.) 📍 Auckland

Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting healthy ageing and reducing falls in older adults? Do you enjoy working with communities, providers, and health partners to create meaningful impact?

Harbour Sport is looking for a Community Strength and Balance (CSB) Trainer to support and grow our ACC-approved Strength and Balance programme across Counties Manukau.

About the programme

CSB is part of ACC’s national Live Stronger for Longer initiative, supporting older adults to improve balance and leg strength and reduce the risk of falls. The programme works through a network of approved community providers delivering evidence-based classes across diverse communities.

About the role

As the CSB Trainer – Counties Manukau, you will support the growth, quality, and sustainability of CSB classes by working closely with providers, instructors, community organisations, and health agencies. This is not a class-delivery role; instead, you will focus on providers’ support, quality assurance, community engagement, and referral pathways, with a strong emphasis on equity and access in hard-to-reach communities.

Key responsibilities include:

Supporting and mentoring CSB providers and instructors to meet ACC quality standards
Assessing and approving new CSB classes and instructors
Building and maintaining relationships with community and health partners
Supporting programme growth in underserved and priority populations –
Contributing to reporting, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the programme
Supporting providers and instructors with onboarding, quality assurance, and class development across Counties Manukau
About you

You will bring a strong understanding of community-based health or physical activity programmes, along with excellent relationship-building skills. You are organised, proactive, and comfortable working across diverse communities and stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience in fitness, physical activity, health, or community sector
Knowledge of (or interest in) falls prevention and older adult health
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
The ability to support, guide, and assess providers and instructors
An understanding of equity-focused and community-led approaches
Relevant qualifications in exercise, health, or a related field are desirable.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the exercise and fitness industry or closely related field, with a good understanding of older people and their needs, and significant experience working with, and/or strong connection to, Māori and/or Pacific and/or Asian communities.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday, 2nd March 2026 – Please apply early, as applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the role may be filled before the closing date.

Please Note – Only applicants with the right to work permanently in New Zealand will be considered for this position. Successful applicants will be requested to consent to a criminal record check.
