About the Role

As a Compliance Specialist, you will be a critical player in investigating and assessing risk events raised by ANZ Australia Retail and Commercial divisions. Your main responsibility will be providing advice, guidance, and training to ASIC Reportability Specialist colleagues within the team. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Business Unit SMEs, Legal, Compliance, and other stakeholders, to assess for ASIC reportability and provide inputs into ASIC submissions.

Your strong critical thinking, effective communication skills, and ability to navigate complex regulatory issues will be crucial in ensuring that the organization consistently meets its regulatory obligations and upholds high standards of risk management.

This role will support the centralised model by applying a specialised regulatory investigation and breach identification skillset.

What will your day look like?

Role accountabilities:
Lead and/or undertake regulatory investigations and make breach assessment decisions in relation to potentially reportable matters which may be in breach of core obligations.
Contribute to the development of formal training, and provide guidance, quality review and oversight for junior staff.
Contribute to thematic and notice led regulatory responses.
Stay abreast of legislative, regulatory and judicial developments in the significant breach reporting space, anticipate and assist the team in adapting to forthcoming regulatory focus areas.
Work in partnership with Legal, Systemic Issues, Banking Code of Practice and other regulator facing teams to ensure ANZ Retail and Commercial divisions’ compliance with regulator expectations.
Build strong and influential relationships with key business, assurance and legal stakeholders.
Formulate response strategies to changing regulatory expectations and emerging industry best practice trends in complying with ASIC’s RG78 breach reporting regime.
What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

Extensive experience in a similar compliance, risk management or legal role within a large and complex organization.
Comprehensive knowledge of ASIC’s RG78 requirements and familiarity with key breach reporting legislation (Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), National Consumer Credit Protection Act 200+ (Cth) and Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (Cth)).
Strong critical thinking, judgement and decision-making skills, including the ability to understand and simplify complex matters involving different products and root causes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex matters clearly and concisely.
Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills to handle multiple competing demands without compromising quality.
Problem-solving expertise, especially in risk and compliance contexts.
Strong relationship management skills and demonstrated ability to influence at different levels.
A focus on coaching, development and team skill uplift.
Ability to respond to challenges associated with a changing regulatory environment and identify pathways through uncertainty.
Legal qualifications and/or experience working in regulators (e.g., ASIC) preferred.
