💰 $3,800 - $6,080 (Est.) 📍 Auckland

Job Description

Full job description
About the Role
Construct Plus Associates Limited is seeking a highly analytical and technically driven Construction Estimator to support the costing, planning, and procurement phases of our residential, multi-unit, mixed-use, and commercial projects.

This is a specialised technical role requiring strong foundational knowledge in construction engineering principles, materials behaviour, building structures, and quantitative analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Quantity Surveyors to deliver accurate cost models, risk assessments, and procurement documentation for projects delivered to strict programme and quality standards.

This is not an entry-level position: applicants must demonstrate strong numerical reasoning, ability to interpret complex structural drawings, and a solid grasp of construction methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
Interpreting detailed architectural, structural, and services drawings, material specifications, and construction methodologies to prepare accurate cost assessments and material schedules.

Performing comprehensive quantity take-offs (QTOs) using surveying principles and measurement techniques, including cross-checking site conditions and verifying dimensional data.

Developing cost estimates, bills of quantities, cost breakdown structures, and procurement forecasts aligned with New Zealand construction standards and codes of practice.

Analysing construction materials (concrete, masonry, steel, building systems) and evaluating technical performance, durability, and cost implications for various project types.

Supporting construction scheduling by aligning cost projections with programme stages, resource allocation, and risk constraints.

Assessing contractor quotations, labour productivity factors, and supply-chain conditions to identify variances and potential risks.

Preparing cost–benefit analyses, value-engineering proposals, and scenario modelling to determine the most efficient solutions for the project.

Assisting with construction quality control, ensuring estimated costs reflect required technical standards, regulatory compliance, and inspection outcomes.

Contributing to project reports, audit documentation, and tender submissions, ensuring high levels of accuracy, clarity, and technical reliability.

Qualifications and Skills
Required:

Diploma or Degree in Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a closely related discipline.

Demonstrated technical competence in:

Engineering mathematics and mechanics

Construction materials and building structures

Cost estimation and construction economics

Surveying methods and measurement techniques

CAD or digital drafting systems

Strong ability to analyse complex drawings, interpret codes of practice, and apply engineering judgement.

Preferred (advantageous):

Experience with construction cost databases or digital estimating tools.

Understanding of intelligent building systems, energy-efficient technologies, and modern construction methodologies.

Familiarity with NZS, Building Code, and relevant industry standards.

Ability to perform multi-stage cost modelling and risk analysis independently.
