OCAD University invites applications for a full-time one-year (with possibility to be renewed for up to a three-year term) CLTA position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Indigenous art history, curatorial and artistic practice in the Indigenous Visual Culture program. This position is expected to commence August 1, 2025 and is subject to budgetary approval.
The Indigenous Visual Culture (INVC) program at OCAD University combines practice-specific and interdisciplinary studio-based learning, and courses in the visual, cultural, social and political history of Indigenous peoples. The program prepares students to engage in complex and evolving global discourses in Indigenous history, art history and contemporary art practice across a range of expressions, material and media. It can lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or an interdisciplinary minor.
The Faculty of Arts & Science and Indigenous Visual Culture seeks qualified Indigenous candidates who can demonstrate how their lived experience and community responsibilities inform their work and whose theoretical and making/design expertise provide offerings that meet current areas of need within the Faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at all undergraduate levels, to maintain an active research profile, to contribute to the ongoing development of the INVC curriculum, and to participate in other activities that contribute to the thoughtful and accountable bringing of Indigenous knowledges into the university.
The ideal candidates will have a PhD or equivalent in Indigenous Studies, Art History or Fine Arts related discipline with a specialization in current aesthetic, theoretical, axiological and methodological concerns of Indigenous works, traditions and perspectives. Official community recognition of Indigenous knowledge keeper status, a Master’s degree, or equivalent experience will also be considered. Candidates should hold a proven record of creative community activism, professional practice and/or collaborations relevant to Indigenous art and design. A strong record of research, scholarship and professional creative practice; evidence of positive post-secondary teaching experience; and an aptitude for innovative curriculum development in a degree-granting art and design institution are considered assets.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
Teach five (5) undergraduate courses in the area of Indigenous Visual Culture within the Faculty of Arts & Science.

Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in contributing to student success at OCAD U through the ongoing development, decolonization, and bringing of diverse knowledges into the undergraduate curriculum, policies and promotion through Faculty and Program meetings and initiatives
Perform course outline development, and course delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations, and final evaluations/reviews, including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines
Provide service to the faculty and University-wide governance system, as well as participate building the University community and promoting the quality of student life and University culture
Participate actively in professional practice, research and/or scholarship within a relevant discipline is an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate should have:
PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as Art History, Indigenous Studies, Curatorial Studies. A Master’s degree or equivalent professional and community experience will also be considered
Demonstrated ability to teach Indigenous Visual Culture at the post-secondary level
Experience proactively advancing decolonization, diversity and equity, Indigenous knowledges and sustainability in curriculum, teaching, scholarship, and creative/professional activities
A record of research or professional practice in a relevant area
An aptitude for developing and delivering innovative curriculum
Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills
Demonstrated collegiality, conflict resolution skills, and sensitivity to the learning needs of students
A proven record of promoting respectful and inclusive work and learning environments for students, staff, and faculty
Experience teaching art and design students is a strong asset

Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications with access to full benefits and pension contribution after one year of service.

The Graduate School of International Studies at Université Laval, located in Quebec City, Canada, invites applications for a faculty position in teaching global issues. The selected candidate will hold the Teaching Leadership Chair in Global Issues and will work in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Administration.
The Chair is dedicated to advancing pedagogical innovation and fostering critical thinking in both teaching and research. Its goal is to train students capable of analyzing the complexity of contemporary international dynamics. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s academic programs, producing knowledge in the field of international studies, and developing innovative teaching practices that benefit not only students, but also professionals, institutions, and members of the public engaged with global challenges.
Global issues encompass a wide range of pressing and interconnected problems that define the landscape of international relations. These include the dynamics, actors, and institutions involved in collective responses to today’s global governance challenges. Areas of expertise sought by the school include, but are not limited to, the following: global health and health security; climate governance, energy, and sustainable development; conflicts below the threshold of war (e.g., cyberattacks, propaganda, subversion, disinformation, sanctions, etc.); international migration and migration policies; transformation of the international order and reform of global institutions.
The study of global issues is inherently interdisciplinary and draws on a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches. It seeks to enhance understanding of the increasing interdependence of societies, as well as the enduring tensions between state sovereignty and the imperative for international cooperation. From a pedagogical standpoint, the Chair will use innovative and cutting-edge techno-pedagogical tools to help students engage more effectively with complex global phenomena.
A research advisor will support the co-chairs in developing, planning, and submitting research grant applications, while also ensuring the Chair’s outreach activities are maximized. A budget will also be allocated to provide doctoral scholarships associated with the Chair.
The selected candidate for this position will be integrated into the Graduate School as a regular professor starting on June 1, 2026, or no later than September 1st, 2026. Hiring may be at any academic rank in accordance with the Collective Agreement between Laval University and the Syndicat des professeurs et des professeures de l’Université Laval (SPUL).
The Graduate School of International Studies is recognized as a center of excellence in multidisciplinary research and teaching on international issues. Its mission is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge on global issues and to train highly specialized professionals capable of understanding, debating, and acting on the international stage. Our specialists, from 12 different disciplines, work on various international issues, such as international trade, the environment, security, migration, geopolitics, global health, agribusiness, development, democratization, conflicts, and many other subjects.
Duties include:
Teaching at the graduate level;
Supervising master’s essays, dissertations and doctoral theses;
Conducting research and publishing in the field of science diplomacy;
Participating in School-related pedagogical and administrative activities;
Being involved in any other activity provided for in the Université Laval-SPUL collective agreement. Selection criterias
Ability to teach in French within three years of appointment.
Advanced proficiency in quantitative methods, including data analysis; experience with experimental methods is considered an asset;
A PhD in a field relevant to global issues;
Applications from doctoral candidates nearing the completion of their dissertation will be considered, provided a letter from the department chair confirms the expected date of submission or defense;
Demonstrated strong commitment to pluri-/interdisciplinarity, whether through academic background, research program, teaching experience, or collaborative projects;
An excellent research record, with publications in top peer-reviewed journals in the candidate’s field, or strong potential to develop such a record for early-career applicants;
University-level teaching experience, ideally supported by evaluations;
A proven track record of securing research funding from recognized granting agencies, or strong potential to obtain such funding in the near future;
Ability to teach a graduate-level methodology course;
Proven integration into international research networks is considered an asset;
