Vegetarian Chef – Specializing in Chinese Cuisine
Starting Salary: $27/hour
Location: International Buddhist Temple – Richmond, BC
We are seeking a Cook with strong experience in East Asian vegetarian cuisine. Proficiency in Chinese cooking is required; knowledge of Japanese cuisine is also an asset. The ideal candidate is skilled in various Chinese cooking styles—particularly Cantonese wok techniques, dim sum, and traditional slow-simmered soups—and has a solid understanding of food safety and handling practices.
You will be responsible for preparing high-quality vegetarian lunches for our Temple’s monastics, staff, volunteers, and guests.
Typical working hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with some flexibility to adjust or shorten shifts as needed. Part-time positions may also be considered.
We welcome applications from sous chefs or cooks with less experience who show genuine interest and commitment to learning Chinese vegetarian cuisine.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook Chinese vegetarian dishes following established recipes and quality standards.
Ensure all food preparation aligns with current food safety regulations and best practices.
Assist with ingredient preparation (e.g., chopping, slicing, marinating).
Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs to procurement team.
Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient meal service.

Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years experience in a restaurant or food service environment, or a certificate from an accredited culinary program.
Ability to manage kitchen operations and delegate tasks to helpers and volunteers.
Solid knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
Strong understanding of food safety protocols.
Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is preferred.
