Job description, work day and responsibilities
Role: Management Accountant
Salary: £40,000 Per Annum
Location: Role is based in Derby, but we have a flexible approach to hybrid working.
Job Purpose
• Reporting to the Managing Director, and supported by non-exec finance director, you will be the key member of the senior management team.
• You will deliver accurate and insightful financial business management outputs, using commercial analysis, KPI reporting and implementing system and control improvements within set timelines.
• You will use appropriate methods of investigation to identify and resolve account administration issues by providing financial information to aid managerial planning.
• Ideally you will have had experience in a similar retail/ecommerce business.
• You will play a pivotal role in optimising business profitability and the growth of the Active Apparel Group.
Responsibilities will include but will not be restricted to:
Accounts
• Prepare the monthly management accounts, post journals for sales, cost of sales, prepayments and accruals, wages, stock, loans and depreciation and reconcile all balance sheet nominals
• Forecast income and expenditure.
• Working with Buyers, improvement of Purchase Order control process through to GRNs received and invoices processed for payment.
• Reconcile supplier accounts to ensure balances are correct and old items are dealt with accordingly
• Important involvement in the importing of goods from the far east eg VAT, Import Duties
• Involvement in stock takes as required.
• Involvement in potential future restructure and expansion of this division, supported by Business Owner and Head of Finance.
• Understanding stock movements and working with the stock management system reports to provide analysis on stock turnover etc.
• Prepare weekly sales reporting.
Cash
• Approve the weekly and monthly payment runs in line with the agreed cash forecast
• Own the weekly cash flow forecast and discuss with the Managing Director.
• Provide give clarity on the timing of upcoming payments
• With the Head of Finance, Liaise with Business Owners and external funders to raise cash as required
• Understand the cash requirements and profile for container imports.
External Liaisons and Compliance
• With the external accountants, assist in the information for preparation of financial statements and tax returns and Year End processing
• Prepare each company VAT Return ready for the Group Management Accountant to undertake the Group VAT Return.
Budgets
• Provide support during the annual budgeting process
Payroll
• Own the payroll process for all staff. Collating timesheets and HR administration for contracts and pay data.
People
• Manage and develop the Accounts Assistant.
Personal Performance
• To take responsibility for personal performance and the development of personal skills to ensure the required skills, knowledge and competence to fulfil the role.
Customer Focus (Internal and External)
• Effectively meeting customer needs, building productive customer relationships and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty to the business.
Qualifications
• Proficient in accounting software, including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, and PeopleSoft
• Strong financial management and financial accounting skills
• Experience in preparing financial statements and handling tax-related matters
• Knowledge of accounts payable processes
• Ability to mentor junior staff and provide guidance in financial services
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
