Position Summary
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on cost-related data to support operational and financial decision-making. This position plays a key role in product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and overall financial performance tracking, with a strong focus on supporting the manufacturing and distribution process.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and analyze standard costs of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
Conduct monthly variance analysis (purchase price, labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances).
Prepare detailed inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) reports and reconcile inventory accounts.
Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost savings.
Collaborate closely with Product Managers on semi-annual pricing reviews to ensure accurate margin analysis and pricing strategies.
Work with the Business Analytics team to evaluate sales performance trends and interpret data to support the annual forecasting and budgeting processes.
Assist with the development and maintenance of cost accounting systems and procedures.
Support monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations related to inventory and cost accounting.
Prepare periodic inventory reserves reconciliation, analyzing inventory for risk, and monitoring with support from internal stakeholders.
Participate in annual budgeting and standard cost setting processes.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and accounting principles related to cost accounting.
Assist with audits (internal and external) by providing required documentation and analysis.
Provide ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support business strategy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2–4 years of relevant cost accounting experience in a B2B environment, preferably within the distribution or manufacturing sectors.
Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite); advanced Excel skills required.
Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.
CPA or CMA designation (or working toward certification).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
