The SRE Team are looking for an experienced Database Administrator who is excited about scaling, supporting, and architecting scalable databases to join our team. In this position you will provide solutions and support for our SQL Server Database in Azure for the European or APAC time zone. You will provide technical leadership and support to Engineers and work with varying technical teams to implement reliable, robust, and scalable solutions for our database as well as fix issues and drive the Degreed system forward. The ideal candidate for this role will need to be able to work during European and/or Australian business hours and must be comfortable communicating asynchronously. This role will be based in Bengaluru, India. After an in-office onboarding period, this position will be remote-first but with requirements for recurring in-office days for team syncs and group gatherings. Candidates will also be required to travel internationally 1-2 times annually for full company gatherings.
Day in the Life
• Participate in troubleshooting production issues and work with the team to continuously evaluate and improve the quality, reliability and scalability of the Degreed platform
• Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents or events which occur on all of our production databases
• Continuously review and evaluate the resources on the database and improvements to the performance of the database
• On-call for production issues following an around the sun model for their region
• Contribute to the solutions for the team with design, architecture and estimation.
• Build relationships with architects, engineers and other stakeholders across Degreed and influence technology decisions based on data
• Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to existing engineering processes including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Participating in the rotating production database support and release process
Who You Are

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in SQL Databases specifically Azure SQL or SQL Server
• 3+ years of demonstrated experience of implementing robust distributed/scalable systems preferably for a modern SaaS application in the cloud
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, technical and non-technical. We always need engaging and clear documentation for our technical and non-technical teammates. Most of this will be done via Confluence or Slack.
• Ability and willingness to mentor other engineers.
• Solution-driven with the ability to understand the big picture
• Lifelong learner and passionate about discovering new things and taking on new challenges.
What Sets You Apart
• Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• 2+ years of experience providing technical leadership to a US-based remote, distributed team
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform
• Experience with a wide range of Relational Databases and Non-relational Databases
• Experience with Containers and Serverless architecture
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services and/or Snowflake
