In this role, you will design, implement, and manage database systems and processes that support key business operations across multiple lines of service including wealth management, group benefits, insurance, and media.
You will play a critical role in building data workflows that power internal tools, client platforms, and reporting dashboards. This includes developing custom scripts and automation using Python, maintaining database environments on Linux servers, and optimizing performance for mission-critical applications. This is a cross-functional position that works closely with our executive team, software developers, and business operations leads to ensure data is clean, accessible, secure, and aligned with business goals.
We’re looking for someone who is technical, solution-oriented, and excited to help us build scalable infrastructure for the next stage of our growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and manage relational and non-relational databases to support enterprise-wide applications.
• Write and maintain Python scripts for ETL processes, data parsing, and automation of recurring tasks.
• Develop and execute Linux shell scripts for server maintenance, cron jobs, and backup automation.
• Configure, monitor, and optimize database performance, indexing, query plans, and storage strategies.
• Lead and maintain data migration projects between systems or applications.
• Build and maintain APIs and secure data connectors between internal and third-party systems (e.g., Salesforce, financial APIs).
• Collaborate with team members to design and maintain data models, schemas, and warehouse environments.
• Implement and test backup, replication, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Enforce data governance policies, data security protocols, and user access control measures.
• Monitor database health and provide diagnostics, support, and solutions for performance bottlenecks.
• Contribute to DevOps pipelines, CI/CD deployment workflows, and infrastructure documentation.
• Support reporting and analytics initiatives by providing structured data pipelines and exports.
Qualifications
Technical Skills
• Strong experience with SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or equivalent database technologies.
• Proficient in Python, with experience building tools, automating workflows, and handling structured/unstructured data.
• Solid working knowledge of Linux environments, shell scripting, and server configuration.
• Experience with database optimization, performance tuning, and monitoring tools.
• Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git), and DevOps tooling.
• Familiarity with API development, data integration tools, or data warehouses (an asset).
• Strong experience with file system design, thread and concurrency management.
• Deep understanding of SSH/SFTP protocols.
• Working knowledge of file compression techniques (nice to have).
• Deep understanding of file sharing methodologies in LAN/WAN environments.
• Experience in Azure.
Soft Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
• Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive data with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
