This 16‑week, part‑time paid placement (12 hours/week) at Youth Options provides supervised, hands‑on experience supporting youth events and digital communications. Participants assist with practical tasks such as podcast set‑up support, drafting and scheduling social media posts, basic website checks, and compiling newsletters and promotional materials using templates. Work is closely guided with step‑by‑step instruction and regular check‑ins, helping participants build confidence, routine and foundational employability skills in a real workplace.

Role Purpose

This entry-level role provides participants with paid, hands-on experience supporting the planning and delivery of youth engagement events. The position focuses on assistant-level event tasks completed under close supervision, enabling participants to build foundational employability skills in a real workplace environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Podcast: assist with setup, organize notes, check sound levels, and help prepare guest introductions under supervision.

Social Media: draft posts, select images, schedule content, and monitor comments with guidance.

Website: check for broken links and outdated info using a checklist; report findings.

Newsletter: gather approved content, assist with layout, proofread, and help distribute following instructions.

Promotional Material: assemble flyers, posters, and banners using templates and pre-approved content, checking for errors.

Events: compile schedules, prepare materials, set up spaces, organise supplies, and support logistics.


All of these duties are performed under direct supervision, with step-by-step guidance and regular check-ins to support skill development and ensure accuracy. The tasks are tailored to be accessible for individuals with no prior experience, focusing on learning basic processes and building foundational workplace skills.

Entry-Level Scope and Supervision

This role requires no prior digital communication or events experience. All duties are undertaken under direct supervision and do not include independent decision-making, budget management, staff supervision or responsibility for outcomes.

Training and Wrap-Around Supports

Training and supports are embedded within paid work hours and include on-the-job instruction, task modelling, regular check-ins, adjustments to task complexity and supported reflection on skill development.

Participants will demonstrate improved employability and work readiness in the following areas:

Reading Skills: Follow simple instructions, checklists and templates to understand event plans, content briefs and basic workplace information.

Writing Skills: Draft short, clear written content such as social media posts, event notes and newsletters using approved templates and guidance.

Oral Communication Skills: Communicate clearly and respectfully with supervisors, colleagues and event participants by asking questions, seeking clarification and providing updates when required.

Learning Skills: Build confidence in learning new tasks by observing demonstrations, practising skills, and responding positively to feedback and support.

Problem-Solving Skills: Identify basic issues such as missing information, errors in content or event setup needs, and report these to a supervisor for guidance.

Initiative and Enterprise Skills: Show willingness to try new tasks, assist with a range of activities, and contribute ideas when encouraged in a supportive environment.

Teamwork Skills: Work cooperatively with staff and other participants to support events, communications tasks and shared workplace responsibilities.

Planning and Organising Skills: Manage time across set tasks, prepare materials in advance, and follow schedules with support and reminders.

Self-Management Skills: Develop reliability by attending shifts as scheduled, completing tasks with guidance, and building confidence in a structured workplace routine.
