DIRECTOR, HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT – CALGARY (CAT)
The Director QHSE reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for developing a robust HSE Management System and providing direction and guidance to the Divisions in the program’s deployment across the company. These efforts will continue to establish and maintain an incident and injury free culture and drive sustained improvement in HSE performance.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure that Trican's core value, "Safe equipment and operations" is the priority in all activities
• Guide, support and coordinate the development of corporate QHSE programs and policies in close association with the Divisional Management to minimize risk to employees, customers and the general public
• Provide required support to senior management for the strategy and program deployment and do so by employing a strong business perspective
• Assist Divisions with continuously improved HSE performance and simultaneously heightened HSE awareness
• Advance the HSE Management System and further develop and document relevant corporate policies and procedures
• Develop corporate and field HSE personnel to ensure self-sufficiency
• Coordinate and oversee emergency response/crisis management in conjunction with staff
• Prepare and present management reports related to HSE performance or other matters of importance (HSE Audit reports, quarterly board reports, etc.)
• Provide interpretation and guidance for compliance with regulatory requirements and align company activities and reporting to ensure compliance to same
• Set and effectively manage an HSE budget, develop a list of HSE projects/initiatives, establish priorities and implement a program management approach to execute on chosen mandates, recognize the need to juggle priorities to reflect the changing urgency HSE requirements within a dynamic setting
• Ensure that Incident Investigation techniques are in place and that HSE and divisional representatives are trained and performing these tasks
• Present recommendations and suggest course of action to immediately stop incident trends, while ensuring approved policies or procedures are implemented as quickly and efficiently as possible
• Conduct trips to the field for maintaining contact with related staff and ensuring that the operations meet Trican standards
Experience & Skills:
• Minimum 15 years experience in progressively responsible Health and Safety or other management roles in the Oil and Gas sector
• Relevant undergraduate degree and certification in Health & Safety Management or Business, or a combination of education and comprehensive HSE leadership experience
• Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Working knowledge of OH&S policies, standards, legislation and procedures pertaining to the Oil and Gas Industry
• Familiarity and experience dealing with regulatory bodies
• Track record for influencing HSE performance by building networks (internal & external), capturing hearts and minds of employees, proactive communications and being a positive change agent
• Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and engage geographically disparate teams
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative solutions
• Passion for creating and maintaining a safe workplace
• Proficient with Microsoft Office desktop applications

Working Conditions:
• Regular office hours, Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional overtime
• Willingness to travel to the field and base locations is required; must possess a valid driver’s license
