Lead independent health and safety risk, audit and assurance across one of Australia’s most complex infrastructure portfolios—shaping safe, resilient and accountable delivery at scale.


In this role, you’ll:


Provide strategic leadership of Sydney Metro’s health and safety risk, audit and assurance function, delivering independent, risk‑based assurance across projects, operations and delivery partners.


Ensure critical health and safety controls are well designed, operating effectively and continuously improved, supporting a safe and resilient rail infrastructure delivery and operational environment.


Set the organisation’s health and safety assurance strategy and annual program, oversee governance for safety change management, and provide strategic oversight of incident investigations, audits and onsite verification activities.


Working closely with project, operations and partnering teams, influence risk‑based decision making and embed learning across the enterprise.


As a senior leader, act as a trusted adviser to executives and regulators, champion a proactive safety culture, and introduce contemporary assurance practices informed by domestic and international best practice.

About you


You are a senior health and safety leader with deep expertise in risk, audit and assurance within complex, high‑risk construction and rail environments.


You bring sound judgement, independence of thought and the ability to provide robust challenge while building strong, collaborative relationships.


Confident operating at executive level, you influence outcomes through insight, evidence and integrity.


Key capabilities and experience


Extensive experience in health and safety risk management, audit and assurance frameworks within construction and rail environments.
Deep knowledge of WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law and relevant Codes of Practice, and Rail Transport Operator accreditation requirements with proven ability to apply these in practice
Strong track record leading health and safety audits, assurance programs and regulatory engagement
Ability to translate assurance insights into strategic improvement and organisational learning
Proven leadership capability, including developing high‑performing teams and fostering a positive, proactive safety culture

Essential requirements


Tertiary qualification in a relevant safety discipline (minimum Cert IV WHS or Rail Safety)
Lead Auditor certification with experience leading health and safety audits in large, complex environments
Professional membership of a recognised safety body (or ability to obtain)
This role is identified as a Rail Safety Worker under the Rail Safety National Law
