Product Development Lead (Banking Products)
Description:
Role Summary.
We are seeking a Product Development Lead to own end-to-end engineering delivery of our banking product suite.
You will lead a 20+ member product engineering team, define and drive solution architecture, enforce coding and delivery best practices, and partner with business stakeholders and clients to deliver a secure, scalable and high-quality product roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Delivery Management:
- Lead, mentor and manage a cross-functional product engineering team (20+ members); assign work aligned to product vision and delivery priorities.
- Drive sprint planning, estimation, execution tracking, risk management and release readiness across multiple workstreams.
- Build an execution culture with clear ownership, quality gates and continuous improvement.
Solution Architecture and Technical Direction:
- Own the solution architecture for web and mobile platforms; ensure scalability, security, performance, maintainability and regulatory readiness.
- Create and maintain architecture artefacts (HLD/LLD, integration diagrams, data models, API contracts) and socialize them through walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Security and Infrastructure stakeholders to ensure robust non-functional design (availability, DR, observability, access controls).
Engineering Excellence:
- Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices for web application development (clean code, SOLID principles, design patterns).
- Drive code reviews, CI/CD discipline, automated testing strategy and measurable improvements in code quality and delivery velocity.
- Guide teams on performance tuning, secure development practices, API design, database design and troubleshooting.
Banking Domain Ownership:
- Provide functional and technical leadership across banking modules such as CASA, Term Deposits and Loans (high-level lifecycle and configuration awareness).
- Work closely with product owners/domain SMEs to convert business requirements into clear technical specifications and executable backlogs.
- Ensure proper alignment of product behavior with accounting/GL needs, fees and charges, interest handling and operational workflows as applicable.
Stakeholder and Client Communication:
- Serve as the primary engineering contact for clients, senior leaders and internal business units; ensure clarity, alignment and timely decision-making.
- Represent the Product team in internal committees (architecture review boards, steering committees, governance forums).
- Provide crisp executive updates, status dashboards, risks/issues and recommendations on delivery and roadmap.
Roadmap and Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to overall product roadmap with recommendations on modernization, platform improvements, scalability, security and technical debt reduction.
- Identify and execute initiatives to improve engineering productivity, reliability and customer experience.
Required Skills and Experience:
Experience:
- 10-15+ years of software engineering experience, with significant product engineering leadership exposure.
- Proven experience leading large teams (20+ engineers) and delivering enterprise-grade products.
- Strong architecture and delivery experience in BFSI / banking product environments (preferred).
Technical Skills (Must Have):
- Strong hands-on command of Core Java and Spring Boot; ability to guide design and implementation decisions.
- Working knowledge of Node.js and Flutter; experience collaborating across web and mobile stacks.
- Experience with server-side templating and UI frameworks such as Thymeleaf (or equivalent).
- Strong database experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle: schema design, query optimization, indexing, transactions and data modeling.
- Solid grasp of integration patterns and APIs: RESTful services, microservices patterns, authentication/authorization (OAuth2/JWT) and secure coding.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and engineering practices: Agile/Scrum, CI/CD, code reviews, automated testing and release management.
Banking Domain Knowledge (Must Have):
- Good understanding of CASA operations (accounts, interest, fees/charges, limits/holds, statements) at a functional and system level.
- Good understanding of Term Deposits (opening, maturity, renewal, interest payout modes) and core lifecycle handling.
- Good understanding of Loans (origination and servicing flows, schedules, charges, collections touchpoints) at a functional and technical level.
Communication and Leadership:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present architecture and trade-offs to mixed audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management; comfortable handling senior leadership and client interactions.
- Strong people leadership: coaching, delegation, accountability and team-building.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, containerization and observability tooling.
- Exposure to ISO 20022, payments, channels, or digital banking ecosystems.
- Prior experience working with regulated environments and security/compliance processes.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent (Masters degree is a plus).
