Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Estimating to lead our estimating department within the construction industry. The ideal candidate will oversee the development of accurate project estimates, manage bid processes, and collaborate closely with project teams to ensure profitable and competitive bids. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise in construction estimating, contract negotiations, and project management. The Director of Estimating will play a critical role in driving business growth by delivering precise cost assessments and fostering relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the entire estimating team to develop comprehensive and competitive project bids for commercial and industrial construction projects.
Utilize advanced estimating software such as Bluebeam to prepare detailed cost estimates, proposals, and bid documents.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to review project scope, specifications, and drawings to ensure accurate pricing.
Conduct thorough analysis of project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor quotes, and overheads to establish reliable estimates.
Negotiate contracts with GCs and clients to secure favorable terms while maintaining quality standards.
Implement cost control measures throughout the bidding process to maximize profitability.
Oversee the review of construction contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and client requirements.
Develop strategies for risk management related to project costs and timelines.
Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to maintain a competitive edge in bidding strategies.
Provide leadership in training staff on estimating best practices, software tools, and industry standards.
Requirements
Proven experience in construction estimating, with a strong background in construction management and project management within commercial or industrial sectors.
Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam, and other relevant tools.
Demonstrated expertise in cost control, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
Strong understanding of construction site experience, including familiarity with safety standards and site logistics.
Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Knowledge of construction contracts, legal considerations, and project scope development.
Exceptional analytical skills for detailed cost analysis and risk assessment.
Effective leadership abilities with experience managing teams of estimators or related professionals.
Strong communication skills for clear articulation of estimates, proposals, and project expectations.
