Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Director of Human Environment with excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills to work with our talented and growing Human Environment Team. The successful candidate will contribute to Ausenco’s Earth and Environment business in a leadership role, through the design, delivery, and reporting of socio-economic and socio-cultural projects and related community, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement activities.
The role may be based from any of our Canadian offices (such as Burnaby, Calgary, Whitehorse, Victoria, Burlington) and you may be required to travel for short periods of time. We offer a flexible, hybrid work environment. If you’re the right person for the job, we are open to discussing possible remote working arrangements.


About the role

Leading social, economic, and cultural related projects, including baseline reports, effects assessments, cumulative effects assessment and other related deliverables.
Mentoring a team of supporting specialists and contribute to the development of their technical capacity.
Leading socio-economic data interpretation and analysis.
Preparing well researched and written socio-economic reports, in accordance with provincial, territorial and/or federal regulatory requirements.
Managing resources, including team, budgets, and scopes, along with client management.
Driving on related business development including proposal development.
Managing the coordination, organization, and delivery of community consultation activities and primary data collection programs related to socio-economic and cultural values.

Overseeing performance of a team of individuals focused on socio-economic and Indigenous engagement and impact assessment
Business Development and strategy
Leading Human Environment components of Enviornmental Impact Assessments
Leading community and Indigenous engagement strategies

About you

Degree in social sciences, or related field of study. Master’s degree preferred. Suitable experience may also be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
12+ years of socio-economic experience, and community engagement experience as a consultant or for a proponent.
Experience in mining
Experience with Yukon regulations and communities
Recent and significant experience working on environmental assessments within the regulatory settings of the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO), the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA), the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) and/or the National Energy Board (NEB).
Familiarity with socio-economic related components, such as community infrastructure and services, land and tenure use, community health and wellbeing.
Familiarity with analytical methods used to support socio-economic assessments, such as economic input-output modelling, GIS overlay analysis, health impact assessment, and GBA+.
Experience working in the resource extraction and/or transportation sector preferred.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong research and data analysis skills.
Knowledgeable of participatory action research methods and approaches.
Strong project management skills, ability to multi-task, work under tight timelines and produce quality products that stand up to public and regulatory scrutiny.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Experience working with Indigenous communities in BC and/or northern Canada is an asset
Willing to travel, as required.

Salary range: $120K - $145K
