The Position:
Under the direction of the National President and the National Vice-President, the Director of Operations and Labour Relations is an excluded position and is responsible for senior management functions that support the operational, political, and strategic goals of the UHEW.
Duties:
The position is responsible for leading, managing and developing the internal Labour Relations, Membership Services and Finance team. The position is responsible for the management, delivery, training, and oversight of UHEW’s legislated and contractual representation obligations in accordance with UHEW by-laws, collective agreements, and multi-jurisdictional labour legislative authorities. The position provides assistance and sound advice to the National President, National Vice President and the National Council on matters regarding the operation and functioning of the UHEW.
Qualifications:
Education:
A post-secondary degree in a labour relations, law, political science, social science, legislative studies or a related discipline, or
A suitable combination of education and experience with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience, with an emphasis on public administration and/or labour law discipline.
Experience:
Demonstrated Management and leadership skills with 3 years of direct experience managing staff in a unionized environment.
At least five years of substantial experience representing a complainant in a grievance procedure or before an administrative tribunal.
Experience in labour law such as employee representation, advocacy, community organizing, union education, etc. will be considered an asset.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the structure and the broader political, legislative, and operational inter-relationships within a large national union.
Knowledge of the grievance process and experience handling grievances, complaints, investigations, and alternative conflict/dispute resolutions processes.
Understanding of political and social issues between a union-employer and its internal bargaining units.
Abilities:
Ability to research, analyze, explain, and interpret collective agreements, employment legislation, jurisprudence and employer policies and directive in order to successfully analyze complex situations to develop and recommend appropriate solutions including preparing grievance files and recommend appropriate course of action.
Strong ability to work in a team.

Pay: $126,725.00-$142,632.00 per year
