The Director of Student Experience is a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, driving a vibrant, inclusive, and student-centred culture at the University of Sydney Union (USU). This pivotal role oversees membership growth, student leadership, communities, and events, shaping the way students engage with campus life.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will design and deliver innovative programs, signature events, and membership initiatives that inspire belonging and enrich the student journey. You will lead with vision and integrity, creating an environment where students thrive and where your team is motivated to deliver excellence every day.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As the Director of Student Experience, you will:
Lead the development and delivery of strategic engagement plans, programs, and major events that build student community and culture.
Oversee USU’s membership strategy, enhancing value and growing participation across free and rewards programs.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with the University, student leaders, and key stakeholders.
Provide inspirational leadership to a talented team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Ensure operational excellence across governance, compliance, and risk management.
Drive financial accountability, budget management, and funding proposals to support long-term growth
WHAT YOU BRING
Senior leadership experience (7+ years) managing cross-functional teams in membership-based organisations or programs.
Proven success in large-scale event and project management.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience.
Strong financial management and budget planning skills.
Demonstrated experience in compliance, governance, and risk management.
Transformational leadership style that builds high-performing teams and cultures.
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Passion for student and member experience, with a strong understanding of the university sector.
HOURS OF WORK
This is a Permanent full-time position, 35 hours per week.

Founded in 1874, the USU (University of Sydney Union) is proudly Australia’s oldest and largest not-for-profit student organisation, dedicated to providing students with the best possible university experience.
Led by a student board elected by our members, the USU provides fun things on campus, such as festivals, events and parties. We also run an amazing array of programs, including an active volunteering program and a Language Exchange Program, to name a few.
