The Director of Software Engineering is in the Associate Experience Technology (AXT) organization with oversight of software engineering initiatives that will further the usage of endpoint technology. You will lead and enable full stack teams with strong data experts, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and influence innovative solutions. Additionally, you will proactively identify opportunities to enhance relationships with our partners within the Associate Experience and Developer experience teams.
As part of this role, you’ll work on designing cloud native solutions and will have the opportunity to work on emerging technologies such as: AWS, Java, Python, Endpoint technologies, Big Data technologies, to name a few.
You will:
• Lead multiple delivery teams and coach team through their career development and performance
• Develop the technical strategy, roadmap and vision for the platforms you own
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios – Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
• Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 7 years experience in software engineering or software development
• At least 5 years experience in people management
• At least 5 years experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering or software development
• 8+ years experience architecting and delivering software systems or platforms
• 6+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• 5+ years of experience developing in Golang, Python, Java, or Scala
• 5+ years of experience in open source frameworks
• 3+ years of experience working with Big Data
• 3+ years of experience working with Cyber Security

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
San Francisco and San Jose, California (Hybrid On-Site): $2+1,100 – $332,300 for Director, Software Engineering
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
