Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead intergovernmental policy-related matters through strategic alliances and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders at local,
inter-jurisdictional and national levels.
2. Lead and manage the design, development and implementation of priority strategic policy initiatives and specific intergovernmental
projects, through cross divisional, interagency and national coordination, in response to current and emerging issues affecting the
Northern Territory.
3. Provide critical evidence-based analysis, and strategic advice across a range of national public policy issues that impact on the agency
and the Northern Territory, to support effective decision making and ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met.
4. Provide advice to the Chief of Staff and Commissioner and CEO, pertaining to National Forums and Boards, and coordinate associated
secretariat support services.
5. Represent the agency at a range of intergovernmental committees and forums.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed expertise and experience in developing and influencing strategic policy in a demanding service delivery environment,
through evidence-based research, critical analysis and provision of high-level strategic policy advice, demonstrating strong conceptual
and analytical skills.
2. Superior strategic and operational leadership and management skills, with experience leading diverse teams to deliver with a positive
culture of performance.
3. Demonstrated commitment to flexible, innovative and problem-solving approaches to all aspects of the job and the ability to work
under pressure, with a ‘can-do’ attitude, including dealing with changing priorities and stringent deadlines.
4. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate appropriate, meaningful and accurate information and analysis
to a wide variety of audiences.
5. Astuteness in interpreting and managing social, political and organisational environments with the ability to network, build relationships
and create strategic alliances to deliver strategic and intergovernmental reform.
6. Demonstrated experience in the areas of corporate governance, strategy development, legislative reform, policy development,
intergovernmental relations.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to the position.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues facing the Northern Territory and of government policies and strategies
to address these issues, as well as national policy and reform agendas.
