Our Indigenous Skills Talent Acquisition Register (iSTAR)
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) invites Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to register their interest on the iSTAR register.
Expressing interest on the iSTAR makes it easier for you to explore and gain opportunities with us at DVA.
We will support you by:
contacting you when new vacancies match your preferred location, employment level, and job family
periodically, sending you helpful resources such as applying for jobs in the APS, self-assessing your capabilities against APS classification level profiles, and understanding the job families available in the department.
To better match you with suitable opportunities, we seek to understand your employment preferences, interests, and skills. This information will be collected through the application form.
About the Department
DVA exists to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community—the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income support and Defence support services.
Our aim is to ensure enhanced self-sufficiency, quality of life, financial wellbeing and community recognition for those we support. DVA is both a policy and service delivery agency and we have strong relationships with Australian ex-service organisations, the Department of Defence, the international veteran community and international veterans’ administrations.
DVA’s vision is to be a responsive and flexible organisation, efficiently delivering high quality, connected services to all generations of veterans and the wider veteran community.
About our Employees
As a DVA employee you will be able to help to improve the lives of Australian veterans and their families. You will be respected, supported and encouraged to fulfil your own potential.
As a DVA employee, you will:
be part of an inclusive and diverse work environment
receive a generous starting salary and work conditions
benefit from supportive learning and development
ability to stay connected with the community
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and actively encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as veterans and their family members.
How to Register Interest
We encourage you to submit your interest in being contacted by the department for support in applying for DVA vacancies by completing our online application form, indicating your area/s of interest, experience and attaching your resume.
If a position becomes available that suits your skill set, experience, knowledge, and qualifications, the department may contact you to discuss your interest in that position.
Please note, this register is an expression of interest only. Registering your interest does not guarantee an offer of employment will be made.
Eligibility
The iSTAR is exclusively open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples who are interested in being provided support with applying for DVA vacancies advertised on the APS Gazette.
Engagement and promotion under the Public Service Act 1+++ are not possible through this recruitment register.
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1+++, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
Any successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they hold a current security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
Any successful candidate will also be required to obtain and/or maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance at a minimum.
Additional eligibility requirements are listed on the individual Gazette notices advertised on APS Jobs and the DVA Current Opportunities page.
